thakki January 31, 2015 January 31, 2015 I don't have an air pump in my DT...since the return from my skimmer pretty much pumps back lot of tiny air bubbles...I never thought it's required...just wanted to hear from you guys.
gmerek2 January 31, 2015 January 31, 2015 Skimmer does do an excellent job at it so most of us don't need an air pump in DT. I have heard of people dropping in an air stone with fresh outdoor air to help raise Ph
L8 2 RISE January 31, 2015 January 31, 2015 Skimmer is a massive air pump... So is overflow and surface moving from curculation. No need for one
Coral Hind February 1, 2015 February 1, 2015 Having an air stone in a display tank can cause a lot of salt creep around the tank. As the bubbles pop at the surface a little salt spray is created. This salt spray can rust and ruin lights and other items near the tank. I kept a battery operated air pump for power outage only! Smart idea. I have a few also.
thakki February 1, 2015 Author February 1, 2015 I too have a battery operated air pump...but do you guys leave it plugged in for it get charged?
Squishie89 February 1, 2015 February 1, 2015 I too have a battery operated air pump...but do you guys leave it plugged in for it get charged? Mine works by being plugged in so it knows when the power goes out, then it uses the batteries inside to power the air pump.
thakki February 1, 2015 Author February 1, 2015 Mine works by being plugged in so it knows when the power goes out, then it uses the batteries inside to power the air pump.So you do run it all the time?
Squishie89 February 1, 2015 February 1, 2015 So you do run it all the time?It is plugged in all the time but only runs when the power goes out. So, no.
thakki February 1, 2015 Author February 1, 2015 It is plugged in all the time but only runs when the power goes out. So, no.Oh. That's great...I have to check if I have that option. Mine is hurricane category 5 pump...bought it from one of the wamas members.
khh27 February 1, 2015 February 1, 2015 Yea it should have a 6v battery the ac outlet charges and gets run on when power goes out and should have D battery slot for when that runs out. Leave it plugged in to keep battery charged. Dont know the lifespan of the rechargeable battery with it always plugged in so just keep some D's on hand

thakki February 1, 2015 Author February 1, 2015 Thanks everyone. I had no clue about this option. Will have to explore.
madweazl February 1, 2015 February 1, 2015 As others have mentioned, I too keep a couple on hand for power failures. Come in handy if you're cycling live rock too.
Coral Hind February 1, 2015 February 1, 2015 Also handy when transporting fish in a bucket for long distances. I have the pump on the bucket lid w/ velcro and run the airline thru a hole in the bucket lid.
