Larry Grenier March 15, 2006 March 15, 2006 The tank is an AGA 65 which is 36"L X 18"W X 24"H. It has open rockwork as pictured below. If your answer is yes, what tang would you put in there? My wife wants one but I'm not sure the tank is big enough.
BeltwayBandit March 15, 2006 March 15, 2006 Yes you could get one of the smaller tangs. I would suggest something like a Yellow, Kole, Scopas, Bristletooth Scomini, or Mimic Lemonpeel. (I just did a quick search on Liveaquaria for the smaller tangs). All of these tangs have recommended tank sizes from 50-70 gallons.
steveoutlaw March 16, 2006 March 16, 2006 Larry, I would suggest a yellow tang. I have one in my 65g and he is very happy. He was housed in my 26g for 2 months while I was setting up my 65g and he was happy as clam in there.
ErikS March 16, 2006 March 16, 2006 I'd probably go with one of the less active ones like a kole. Most of the Zebrasoma & Acanthurus are cruisers when grown. Ctenochaetus seem to be just a tad less active. If you're not into the more common ones a cool one is Ctenochaetus tominiensis (Tomini Tang) - definately not the run of the mill tang.
BeltwayBandit March 16, 2006 March 16, 2006 CONVICT TANG Poor fish never did anything to you and you want to go sending it off to prison. :(
Larry Grenier March 16, 2006 Author March 16, 2006 I do have a fondness of the convicts. When in Hawaii, I spent time swimming in schools of these guys. CONVICT TANG
Caribbean Jake March 16, 2006 March 16, 2006 a convict surgeon or convict tang can grow up to 8 inches. need to take that into account when deciding which are his tank mattes.
mogurnda March 16, 2006 March 16, 2006 Poor fish never did anything to you and you want to go sending it off to prison. :( Convict, adjective or verb? You decide :D
Larry Grenier March 16, 2006 Author March 16, 2006 Just got back from BRK-M with a small yellow tang, cleaner shrimp, and an addition to my clean-up crew. My wife is very fond of the yellow tang which swayed me in that direction. Thanks folks
Larry Grenier March 16, 2006 Author March 16, 2006 Little guy started picking at algae about 1 minute after being released.
Larry Grenier March 16, 2006 Author March 16, 2006 Yep, half the size of the one I had a few years ago but very healthy, active, & cute. darn, did I say cute? How un-manly, I meant handsome ahh, old yeller found its way home again!
steveoutlaw March 17, 2006 March 17, 2006 Larry, I believe the manly phrase is, "that's one fine lookin fish". Then lean over and spit yer tobacci in the spitoon and take a swig o beer. My yellow tang is 1 year old and is probably my favorite fish. Glad yours worked out. Steve
