So any clue as to why adding several gallons of top off water would cause my skimmer to go nuts?

I am having a problem with siphoning from my top off container so until I fix that I am just adding top off water to my tank each day which end up being about 3 to 5 gallons. I pump the new RODI water from the storage container directly into the sump with the skimmer and it makes my skimmer go nuts and over flow.

Any idea why?

I just replaced all of my RODO filters including the membrane two weeks ago but that did not help.

Is the water level raising?  Typically RO/DI would do the opposite and reduce the bubble formation.

No, It does not affect the water level in that compartment of the sump.

Are you stirring up something in that might be adding to the surface tension when you add the fresh water? Is the effect immediate, or delayed?

When (ever?) is the last time you cleaned your RO/DI reservoir? They build up a lot of slime and it could be that dumping it all at once as apposed to trickling from an ATO is triggering the skimmer to go crazy.

If your reservoir has an open top, there may be a slick of dust and other household contaminants on the surface. This gets scooped up when you fill a bucket, then transferred to the sump.

Thanks everyone. My rodi reservoir does need to be cleaned.... fun project for this weekend.

I saw this post and couldnt remeber the last time i cleaned mine so Its sitting in vinager right now

Thanks for the reminder :)
