someone gave me some free frags of birdsnest. Can I put a Birdsnest just upstream of green star polyp? How much is too much light on sps like birdsnest? I plan on putting them about 12 inches under 14K 150 watt MH and about 4 inches under the surface. too much?

You won't be able to give it "too much" with a 150w halide.  I recently did some par testing on a 150w phoenix on a hqi ballast, and was sorely disappointed with the output with the goal of SPS growth and color.

I think putting it up top will be the best place.

Depends on the type of birdsnest.  If it is pink, ponape, or paradise, you can burn it.  If it is green, keep it lower.

Ya, I guess it all depends on what you consider high and low light levels.

Here are pictures of my corals and the light levels they are exposed to.

Bruce,

I think the thing is your idea of low light being 150-250 prob, is unlikely achievable down low under a 150w halide.  Sen4251, you should try to get a par meter.  I was only getting 40-100 PAR under my 150w setup at various locations in my tank at the height it was hung.

Clams have doubled in size under my MH. I am hearing contradictory things about green birdsnest. What is low light? Bruce your green looks good under 230 par. Isn't there some sort of Wamas communal par meter?

Same here, tip top of the reef under LEDs. Grows so fast it's problematic at times. It's all good, great starter frags for new folks in our club or sometimes a good option for Paying it Forward and just giving them away. Our club did a growout comp with it last year, Here's how mine did over 4 months.

Fresh cut, in the tank a few hours. (Nov)

There is. It's currently being fixed, but there's a waitlist going. I keep having to move myself to the back of the list as I'm waiting on my new lights, so it does move faster than i thought it would.

Like most angels, they say "with caution".  I have a Regal as well.  Neither one of them bother the corals.  So far so good.  Together they make an awesome pair of fish.

Bruce

Quite possibly the best daughter ever! He reef-friendly?
