gmerek2 December 8, 2014 December 8, 2014 You are sure they aren't green palys right? That's what they look like from here
Der ABT December 8, 2014 December 8, 2014 mojano?....if it looks like a lill anemone....im going to go with mojano...and get rid of em quick. need a better pic....usually free things arent good...usually
thakki December 10, 2014 Author December 10, 2014 (edited) You are sure they aren't green palys right? That's what they look like from here Yeah...they are not palys. No one seems to know what they are. I tried to scrape one of them today and found that its hard and it had some kind of polyps retracted immediately when I touched with the tweezers. Could it be some kind of hard coral? Edited December 10, 2014 by thakki

Der ABT December 10, 2014 December 10, 2014 im gonna go Mojano...still hard to see with the pic blurry but just google mojano green.....pretty sure you will unfortunately find your answer....get rid of them asap
DCReefer1964 December 10, 2014 December 10, 2014 im gonna go Mojano...still hard to see with the pic blurry but just google mojano green.....pretty sure you will unfortunately find your answer....get rid of them asap +1 kill them before they spread.
thakki December 10, 2014 Author December 10, 2014 I searched and found pictures of mojano green...doesnt seem like what I have...and like I said...last night I tried to scrape one of them and its hard like made of calcium...just like some of the hard corals shell.
L8 2 RISE December 10, 2014 December 10, 2014 IF it's hard- then possibly a baby fungia? They attach to the rock when larval and grow from there. Otherwise some other sort of LPS is my guess.
thakki December 10, 2014 Author December 10, 2014 Yes it is hard...couldnt get it out...had to use a little force to scrape it...stuck to the rock very well...it seemed just like hard coral shell. Searched for baby fungia and found this picture which resembles like what I have in my tank. But I never had introduced fungia in my tank.
Der ABT December 10, 2014 December 10, 2014 im still gonna go majano but ya never know.....i had never had them always thought they were brown like aiptasia....got two on a frag a long time ago, let them chill for a few weeks till i realized what they were/big enough to id....tweezers and gone.... would be cool if ti was a fungia....though....did yuo introduce the rock from another tank or anything like that.... find someone wiht a point and shoot camera or bring the rock up near the surface

Does it have the little tentacles? Somebody about a year ago had this happen to them also, can't remember who. A clear pic would help.
thakki December 10, 2014 Author December 10, 2014 I has some kind of tentacles which retracted when I tried to scrape it with tweezers. Will try to get a closer picture tonight...perhaps by moving the rock little closer like 'Der ABT' suggested.
L8 2 RISE December 10, 2014 December 10, 2014 Yep, I'm pretty sure fungia is what it is! Leave them be for now and let them grow. When they're young they grow kind of like a mushroom (a stalk attached to the rock and then a big plate on top). Once they get big enough you can move them onto the sand or to a better viewing spot. I have found these a few times- once mixed in with a zoa frag I bought, and a couple other times on live rock. They often survive the transition from ocean to aquarium on the rock. It's really one of the coolest things to watch grow, and even cooler that you have two!
gmerek2 December 10, 2014 December 10, 2014 That does look like fungia! Lucky! Maybe they came in on a frag
thakki December 10, 2014 Author December 10, 2014 That does look like fungia! Lucky! Maybe they came in on a frag I hope so...usually good things are not free...I have to wait and see.

Anyway...quick question...do they all have like circular shape?...one of them in my tank is not. Edited December 10, 2014 by thakki
L8 2 RISE December 11, 2014 December 11, 2014 They could have slightly different shapes if something interfered with the growth. A better pic would definitely help with a positive ID, however you have the best ability to confirm or deny the ID (with the help of google), because you can actually see it.
YHSublime December 11, 2014 December 11, 2014 you have the best ability to confirm or deny the ID (with the help of google), because you can actually see it. amen to this.
thakki December 11, 2014 Author December 11, 2014 So I managed to scrape one of those off of rock. Here is my observation... - it was hard...took good amount of force to separate it from the rock. - it had some kind tentacles...they immediately retracted when touched. - when it's seperated...I saw the bottom was slimy. Here is a close up picture of front and back.
L8 2 RISE December 11, 2014 December 11, 2014 From the close up pics, I'm not so sure it's Fungia, maybe some other kind of LPS? like Brian's suggestion of a blasto. Either way I don't think it's bad... I would let them grow and see what happens.
YHSublime December 11, 2014 December 11, 2014 It does not look to be hurtful, looks like a coral, I suggest you just let it grow and wait till it's a size that it can be correctly ID'd.
