Neto December 4, 2014 December 4, 2014 So after i came back from a 5 day leave for thanksgiving weekend i noticed some brown stringy algae on rocks. From previous experience, i know these are dynos. I have not introduced any corals or anything from 3-4 months... The only changes last few weeks was that i changed my lights from leds to an ati t5 unit and i added one filter sock ( was not running one before ).. So, any inputs on where did these came from? Maybe from my water? I use an ro unit, no di though. Tds is 8 at the moment. Im doing the 3 day light off and 1ml/10g peroxide treatment... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
YHSublime December 4, 2014 December 4, 2014 I'm also seeing this with my switch to t5s. I think it will pass, I wouldn't peroxide, IMO.

DCReefer1964 December 4, 2014 December 4, 2014 It is a good thing that the Tangs dont eat it. It can be toxic. Sometimes it will pass on it's own and go dormant. I would take the peroxide approach .Being passive led to a massive outbreak in my reef. Algae-X worked best. If I am correct you use Zeo correct? Visit their site to take the Zeo approach to treating Dyno. BTW keep your PH and Mag high. Have you start seeing PH swings yet?
camelcruiser December 4, 2014 December 4, 2014 I had the same thing happen about a month ago. I just siphoned out as much as possible and did water changes for a few times a week and it went away on its own in about 2 weeks. Just make sure you don't let it attach to corals for to long it killed a couple of my acro colonies pretty quickly.

s2nhle December 4, 2014 December 4, 2014 I had it when I dosed carbon like voka and vinegar. I did not know about it as first but when I stop the carbon dosing it went away. I am not sure whether the carbon dosing is the cause of it.

I am not sure whether the carbon dosing is the cause of it. Mine started when I accidently over dosed ZeoBak 3. Yes carbon dosing can cause a bloom as well.

Glad to hear about zeobak3, I have it being dosed with a dosing pump so I must stop it!

I just baste the corals that are covered, and siphon out what I can.

DCReefer1964 December 4, 2014 December 4, 2014 +1 I may get 1 bottle just in case. Is there any expired date on this product? No one has it. Even BRS is out. The link I provided is the only place to get it that I know of.
DCReefer1964 December 4, 2014 December 4, 2014 Enjoy the ride in this tread as well http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?s=99abd24d94b89164a545467b7ab2d5a7&t=634951&page=2
