wade November 17, 2014 Share November 17, 2014 Here's the thing I'm thinking about: Creating a DIY lamp of LEDs that contain mostly UV - specifically for a reptile, but that shouldn't matter here really. And while I recognize that buying either a premade CF or similar reptisun setup might be a heck of a lot easier, wheres the fun in that? I would like to put together a system and am looking for where you find parts. UV lamps source (need both UVA (400~320nM) and UVB (315~280nM) and a few white LEDs. Heat sinks/controller/voltage control/etc sources. And a way to put it together that is both practical and sleek looking. For the LEDs: I need to see how many would be necessary to generate around (of UV) 20 W/cm3 at 12-18". And thanks for any input!
Jim Mc November 18, 2014 Share November 18, 2014 http://www.rapidled.com/ Is one place for LED parts. I am sure others can provide more options.
AlanM November 18, 2014 Share November 18, 2014 UVA and UVB leds are not used in aquarium fixtures and I have no idea where you'd go about getting them in quantity.
Origami November 18, 2014 Share November 18, 2014 I built my lights from parts that I got from ReefLEDLights years ago. Just another source. I have no idea of how you can reliably figure out how many LED's you'll need to obtain your target illumination. Have you looked over any of the reptile forums for ideas?
