greengalaxy September 27, 2014 September 27, 2014 Hey i have grass algae growing like crazy all over my tank. rocks, sand bed, and on my corals. What can i do to get rid of it
smallreef September 27, 2014 September 27, 2014 Pull as much as you can by hand, feed less, skim more, do more water changes P.s. it's called hair algae normally (assuming the is the one your talking about and not bryopsis or something else:)

How big is your system? How old? Pics are always fun and helpful. In this hobby we have all over fed. Over stocked and under skimmed. It takes a long time and patients to get rid of it no matter what you do. GFO helped me out a lot by absorbing the phosphates the algae feeds on. Google it!
toastiireefs September 28, 2014 September 28, 2014 I had some hair algae starting to grow in my tank. I nipped the problem in the bud and got an emerald crab. i had one in an older tank that had a huge algae problem and didn't seem to make too much of a difference. but MAN this crab went to WORK on my algae and there is VERY limited amounts left at the moment.

DuffyGeos October 13, 2014 October 13, 2014 What are your parameters? How often do you change water and how much? How long are your lights on each day? Where do you get your water from and is it RO/DI water?
thakki October 17, 2014 October 17, 2014 +1 for smallreef's suggestions. I have been fighting with green algae for a month now...nassarius snails cleaned all of it on the rocks...but I had some on the sand as well. I have been siphoning out all the algae on the sand before water changes and trying to do more frequent water changes. I think its working...will have to wait and see for another month or so.
