YHSublime September 24, 2014 September 24, 2014 I wanted to look into one of these... but then the website was down and there was little information on them, anybody know what happened with Reef Savvy's Ghost Overflow?

jacobB89 September 24, 2014 September 24, 2014 (edited) When I was building the 180 in really wanted one called talked to them last year. Told me it was going to be available in March or April of 2014. That came and passed and then they said no clue if they would sell the DIY kit or when it would be available if they sold again. Reasons that I heard why was they wanted to get it mass produced overseas then sell it. As it cost them to much to make here and not fast enough to manufacture. Edited September 24, 2014 by jacobB89
jacobB89 September 24, 2014 September 24, 2014 Looks like a no go for meProbably not unless you get someone to build one similar.
lutz123 September 25, 2014 September 25, 2014 Yeah, that's why my tank is still in the garage. I really wanted the ease of that kit. I'd like to see if someone could build one for me that is similar - I would gladly pay not to have to think that through in that great of detail. I didn't read the link in the thread, but I heard that it just became a production nightmare. I still find it incredible that no one even has a bean animal type kit for sale.

madweazl March 4, 2015 March 4, 2015 Old post but it pops up in searches so I'll update. I called them yesterday and they are still working on releasing the DIY kit. The sizes "may" be changing and they still didnt have any word on the cost but provided the previous estimates of $200-250. There was no real ETA but May was mentioned. Something similar can be found via ebay if you search "low profile overflow box".
CaptainRon March 8, 2015 March 8, 2015 I've done some searching on this too - Emailed with Reef Saavy a couple of weeks ago and they said they're still a couple months away from release. The good news is that if you need something quicker than that, the other guys are right - there's some good looking units on ebay listed. This is one of them... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1800-gph-LOW-PROFILE-Overflow-Box-Bulkhead-Mounted-aquarium-surface-skimmer-/191281654428?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c89466a9c (I have no relationship with the seller, etc.)
DCReefer1964 March 9, 2015 March 9, 2015 Just checked out his feedback on eBay. Nothing regarding his overflows is posted there. Looks good but I dont know. May be we could all have an Overflow building party if we had some kits made up to resemble said overflow. Like an AVAST event. In addition I wonder if AquaBox had a solution to offer.

Aquabox is what I went with after I posted this thread up. It's a hard design to mess up, unless you use cheap acrylic, and the say they use cast, which I'm told is stronger. I ordered one just to have on hand, and I've seen some reviews on r2r as well. Madweazle just picked one up also, I'm sure he can speak to it.
madweazl March 9, 2015 March 9, 2015 Tank has arrived (have to pick it up) and the overflow should be here later this week. With any luck, I'll have it installed this week.
madweazl March 12, 2015 March 12, 2015 Some pictures and info about the "low profile" ebay box I installed can be found here
YHSublime March 15, 2015 Author March 15, 2015 Mine came in today also. It's nicely packaged, and wrapped in bubble wrap. External is a bit big, but nicely braced. The bulkheads were placed inside the external box in bags, very tightly fit: Like madweazl, the inside box sealant was not the prettiest job, but also, for the price, can not be beat. Will update after an install, whatever the road may be, at least I will not have to worry about what I will do for the overflow!
AlanM March 15, 2015 March 15, 2015 how deep is it top to bottom? I'm wondering if you can get pipes or elbows or whatever in that external box.
YHSublime March 15, 2015 Author March 15, 2015 how deep is it top to bottom? I'm wondering if you can get pipes or elbows or whatever in that external box. It's 5", but that's an excellent point about the pipes. The bulkheads that fasten the internal and might need to be cut down, and I can leave the center as the open standpipe.
AlanM March 15, 2015 March 15, 2015 Right. Cutting them way down is a good idea. I wish these boxes were around when I setup my tank.
YHSublime March 15, 2015 Author March 15, 2015 Right. Cutting them way down is a good idea. I wish these boxes were around when I setup my tank. I'm mad I didn't think about that, and you would think that this far along they would have incorporated a stubby bulkhead. I guess I should see what it's like getting pipe in there first, I just eye balled it late last night, so I could have wrongly assessed, but doubtful. The 5" top to bottom was measured out with a tape. Why anybody would willingly use a corner overflow is beyond me, after the 180, the real estate gained is monumental! I wonder if all these knock offs are going to get shutdown after the ghost starts getting produced?
YHSublime March 16, 2015 Author March 16, 2015 It's 5", but that's an excellent point about the pipes. The bulkheads that fasten the internal and might need to be cut down, and I can leave the center as the open standpipe. So I went to prep a little bit today and thought, "hey, I'll cut these bulkheads down, I wish they thought about this, I can't believe I have to do this." Well, after sawing through my first bulkhead, I started to think, "hey, there's going to be maybe up to .5" glass in between, which means those bulkheads are not going to be sitting the same way fastened." I only cut through about 6 rings worth, but if whatever I get is up to .5", I think I JUST kept it from being a bust. Hopefully this is the case, but I'm feeling pretty silly.
Synergy Reef March 16, 2015 March 16, 2015 (edited) We use to manufacture the "Ghost Overflow" for Reef Savvy. We have since stop selling direct to Reef Savvy and are now re-releasing the overflow as the Synergy Reef Overflow. Reef Savvy is working on a new design that will be different that the original one we created, but they still will use the "Ghost" name. It sounds confusing, but basically we just renamed the original "Ghost Overflow" to the "Synergy Reef Overflow". You can find more info here http://synergyreef.com/synergy-reef-overflow/ We also will have a booth at MACNA 2015 with this on display and available for purchase. To answer questions about the release date: ETA: April 2015, Some will be shipping sooner. Edited March 16, 2015 by Origami Had to remove pricing from commercial vendor. If interested, please email or PM Synergy Reef.

AlanM March 16, 2015 March 16, 2015 That's great. Will be nice to have them actually be available. Isaac, you can always go buy another bulkhead if you cut yours down too far, I guess. It doesn't need very many threads to hold. You hope, heh.
