fphipps July 11, 2014 July 11, 2014 I bought coral Rx for montipora nudibranchs and the directions say to add 30 drops to 1 gallon of water. I don't need one gallon of water for what I'm doing. Can I make smaller portions? Or if I make a gallon does it have a shelf life? Can I mislead a gallon and use just a bit and put a lid on it?
YHSublime July 11, 2014 July 11, 2014 I always approximate. 15 drops should do half a gallon. 7.5 should do a quarter. You get where I'm going. Don't stress, a drop or two in another direction. Won't hurt, IMO. I always way over pour Bayer for my dips, no problems yet.
Coral Hind July 11, 2014 July 11, 2014 I agree, you can cut the portions down so 1/2 gallon with 15 drops. I've never tried to store it but I think it would also be a temporary option.
DuffyGeos July 11, 2014 July 11, 2014 Take a clean Tupperware bowl and make it a frag bowl. 16 cups = 1 gal so 2 drops to the cup is about right. I just have a bowl that is all I use it for, so I have a line drawn with a sharpie and it says how many drops to that line. After you dip make sure to rinse it twice in two bowls of clean saltwater. I don't think I rinsed well once after Bayer dips when I started doing it and think it killed a shrimp over the course of a couple days. Also wash your hands while it is soaking in the last clean saltwater bowl so you don't add whatever you are dipping into your tank when you put the frag in the tank.
Djplus1 July 11, 2014 July 11, 2014 Def don't store. Make smaller amounts. I always make about 16 oz worth or so at most and chuck it.
