AlanM June 8, 2014 June 8, 2014 I feel like I am going to rip my hands off trying to get the ro membrane canister open. It is a BRS one that is totally smooth on the body with nothing really to grab on to. It just spins, even if I clamp it. Any strategy for getting them open?
davelin315 June 8, 2014 June 8, 2014 I am not familiar with that one - is it possibly a whole replacement piece? Some of the RO components are replaced as a whole piece I think, although I have never owned one of those units. If all else fails, do you have a strap wrench? That might help. In the alternative, try warming the whole component up in hot water and cooling it in ice water to expand and contract the threads so that whatever is holding them together loosens up.
Coral Hind June 8, 2014 June 8, 2014 Tap the sides of the cap to help break the seal. Use a strap wrench like Rob A mentioned. Using silicone grease on the o-ring will help to prevent that in the future.

AlanM June 8, 2014 Author June 8, 2014 I finally installed the 150gpd upgrade I got 6 months ago from brs and changed out all of the media after the sorry state of my 5 micron pre-filter was ridiculed. Putting on new dosers bought on Black Friday last year, mixing new two-part, and setting it all up this afternoon. Sometimes wide ranging changes get spurred by a favorite fish hitting the floor.
