Newms118 June 7, 2014 June 7, 2014 This crab came with my TBS live rock, and has grown to a pretty decent size. I had to move it to my sump because he started eating some of my filter feeders. He has red eyes and his coloring blends well with the live rock:
Squishie89 June 7, 2014 June 7, 2014 Wow I have never seen anything like that. Not sure if this helps, but here is an ID site- http://www.chucksaddiction.com/hitchcrabs.html I did not see your guy on there, saw some sort of similar though.
Incredible Corals June 21, 2014 June 21, 2014 You can drop him in the tank with our ringtail wrasse. They will be best buds.
davelin315 June 21, 2014 June 21, 2014 Look at the pincers and see if they ate flattened or cup like or flat on the tips where they meet. Also, look for large sharp serrations on them as an indicator of whether it is a true carnivore.
gmerek2 June 21, 2014 June 21, 2014 Claw curved. Pinchers slightly cupped. Very similar to emerald crab. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Incredible Corals June 21, 2014 June 21, 2014 Probably algae water then but don't quote me on that. I don't kill any craps when I find then. They get sumped.
gmerek2 June 22, 2014 June 22, 2014 Very aggressive behavior. Here he tries to pinch me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AlanM June 22, 2014 June 22, 2014 I thought the hairy ones were supposed to be bad news in the TBS shipments. Probably an oversimplification though.
gmerek2 June 22, 2014 June 22, 2014 That is cool you got him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yea we made the transaction via PM. Didnt want to break wamas laws by posting up on here. I thought the hairy ones were supposed to be bad news in the TBS shipments. Probably an oversimplification though. probably true. All I have seen him eat is algae but he is very aggressive towards me and his tank mate. The clownfish and him were fighting already. He taste tested the anemone (didnt like it) and the clown wasnt afraid to show him who is boss. This guy wont be going in my DT. Really neat and good addition Staying in my Nem and chaeto tank AKA predator tank. The clown bites.
Newms118 June 22, 2014 Author June 22, 2014 I thought the hairy ones were supposed to be bad news in the TBS shipments. Probably an oversimplification though. If the crabs are brown or black they tend to be bad ones, I still find them in my tank now and haven't been able to catch them with a trap. I also had some red Mithrax crabs that have hairy legs but just tend to eat algae for the most part. Yea we made the transaction via PM. Didnt want to break wamas laws by posting up on here. probably true. All I have seen him eat is algae but he is very aggressive towards me and his tank mate. Really neat and good addition Staying in my Nem and chaeto tank AKA predator tank. The clown bites. Haha I'm glad the clownfish is big and able to handle him. If he's brave enough to antagonize the clownfish, definitely a good idea to keep him out of the DT.
