I really like the look of black sand for my 120. Any issues with it?

Was thinking about Caribsea Instant Aquarium Tahitian Marine Sand, Black 20 lbs

Grain size: 0.1 mm - 0.3 mm

Thanks

The tanks I have seen look great when you first set up but then look terrible over time.

Do you know why? They get crap in them? Don't look black later?

I ran a 54g corner tank for a year or two with black sand. I thought it looked great. Ended up taking the tank down so i can't say how it would look further down the line.

Not sure if it would be drastic but I believe that black sand would absorb lighting and not reflect it.

+1 ...have considered it before too, but that was my worry.

Also, I feel like when I once looked into it the sand silica based and many people didnt like that fact either

The posts below have been my experience, as well.  I wouldn't do it again.  And yes, they get crap in the sand. Thx

It's a personal choice, some love it some hate it. If you do a search on the net you will see many pictures and comments about reef aquariums that have black sand to help you with your choice. Once you put it in the tank it will be a pain to remove. I have a mix of black and white in my 20 gal tank and so far i like it.
