AlanM January 16, 2014 January 16, 2014 Can someone identify this snail? Collonista? I never saw one, and suddenly see a bunch today. It is about an eighth of an inch in size.
Coral Hind January 16, 2014 January 16, 2014 Looks like a collonista to me. My wrasses wiped out mine.
AlanM January 16, 2014 Author January 16, 2014 Looks like a white blob to me. To me too. It's really difficult to take a picture of something tiny on the glass like that. The phone keeps wanting to focus on the larger field instead of the close thing. Also hard when trying to do it after the lights are out and illuminate it with a flashlight that wants to reflect.
Coral Hind January 16, 2014 January 16, 2014 If you have a big population of them you will want to make sure to check your pumps more often as they can clog them. I hade a needlewheel skimmer that wasn't working right because it was full of shells.
AlanM January 16, 2014 Author January 16, 2014 OK. I seem to have a growing population of them. I never saw one until last night. Weird that they popped out of somewhere just like the spirobid worms did. It's like as my water parameters improve things are starting to pop up. I get PO4 down to 0.04 or so and suddenly the SPS starts to grow and change color and a new kind of snail pops up. I don't mind things popping up, but I am hoping to avoid pyramellid (sp?) snails (because I'd like a clam at some point), pineapple sponges (because I dumbly made my pipes hard to clean out), and a few other things.
gmerek2 January 16, 2014 January 16, 2014 Pyramid snails come in on other snails.tiny Parasite snails that hang onto larger snails. They are spirally if that's a word. There is conflicting info some say they they are species specific but if they get hungry I bet it doesn't matter.
