SaltLife October 25, 2013 October 25, 2013 Looking at getting the SR-80. But I have a few concerns for what I want to do with it. It will be an SPS dominate tank. I would like it to be a bare bottom tank. I already have a tank that is BB and I love it, makes cleaning a breeze. But here is the catch, I will be using CeramEco rock. Not live rock. Also this tank if you don't know is a 80g all in one. No sump for rock, sand, etc. I do plan on having fish but I'm worried about Biological filtration. With nearly no live rock and sand I'm worried I'm may be setting myself up for failure. With all the technology people use these days on their tanks is it possible for me to still set up a successful reef without and live rock and sand. I plan to have a few reactors in the back of the tank and a Tunze skimmer that is much over rated for the tank to help out. Also filter pads for all overflows. Any advice on this setup would be appreciated.
camelcruiser October 25, 2013 October 25, 2013 Ceramaco rock will act the same as live rock after it is cycled, so you will still have your biological filtration. I would suggest being patient and letting the tank so cycle for longer then people usually recommend if your going to go with an sps dominated tank, the longer the tank is established the easier your life will be in the long run.
howaboutme October 25, 2013 October 25, 2013 The "live" in live rock refers to the bacteria. The rock itself is not live and it doesn't refer to any critters resulting from purchasing live rock. Really, anything the bacteria can populate can be live.
Jason Rhoads October 25, 2013 October 25, 2013 Really, anything the bacteria can populate can be live. +1 Just take it slow when adding bio load and you will be fine.
SaltLife October 25, 2013 Author October 25, 2013 Was just worried about the cerameco not being as porus as some of the rpck I already have and not javing a sump with more rock just had me a little worried.
roni October 25, 2013 October 25, 2013 Interested to see how the sr60 and 80 tanks look. They are pretty sleek but I wonder if they are better suited to lps/zoo tanks and not sps tanks given the limited real estate in the back. do they come with skimmers and reactors?

I think a sps dominated tank would be possible, although a zoa dominated tank would be even sweeter IMO! do they come with skimmers and reactors?
