Djplus1 September 16, 2013 September 16, 2013 Are these the dreaded brown paly's that everyone always refer to? I looked them up online, and for some reason, they look a little different from when other people show their pics of brown palythoa. The polyp structure looks nothing like my Nuclear Green Paly's, which is generally the polyp structure I have seen online regarding the brown paly. Any help here is appreciated as I'm always yanking off these guys and I'm trying not to poison myself
smallreef September 16, 2013 September 16, 2013 All plays have toxins...just some not as strong as others...I'm not a professional so I can't say those def. aren't but they don't look exactly the same...but ALWAYS wear gloves and eye protection when touching or pulling them off...
Origami September 16, 2013 September 16, 2013 They don't look quite like the ones that knocked me down. Mine were an uglier looking brown with a slightly green tinged area right up against the mouth.
sachabballi reef September 16, 2013 September 16, 2013 yes I think the brown ones are a LOT uglier than those....maybe Steve can chime in LOL
Djplus1 September 16, 2013 Author September 16, 2013 In case anyone cares, the pics were taken under the all whites on my Reefbreeders Photon at 30%, no blues, so the colors in the posted pics are pretty true.
Marc Weaver September 17, 2013 September 17, 2013 Maybe these are the nasty ones http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/notrocketscience/2011/04/05/worlds-2nd-deadliest-poison-in-an-aquarium-store-near-you/#.Uje2oMafgWY

Sometimes the mouth has a tinge of green to them, but they're pretty plain.
sachabballi reef September 17, 2013 September 17, 2013 ooooh somewhere steve is not happy LOL...he hates when this gets brought up ha ha ha
pettyrd September 17, 2013 September 17, 2013 Had no idea palys were poisonous. Great read... Thanks for the link Marc Weaver!
Djplus1 September 17, 2013 Author September 17, 2013 Well, that at least clears up if mine are the infamous ones. Anyone have a clue what mine could be? Under the blue lights they have a pinkish hue to them, but still brown looking.
zygote2k September 17, 2013 September 17, 2013 yours are still considered 'outlaw stew' palys- basically any of the nondescript ugly palys falls into that category. all palys need to be treated as if they could kill you if you're not careful.
Djplus1 September 17, 2013 Author September 17, 2013 I guess if anyone's trying to poison their neighbor, boss, ex, etc. I've got a bunch of paly's I'll sell ya!
Origami September 17, 2013 September 17, 2013 BTW, you can kill them with kalk paste using the same technique as with Aiptasia. Shut your pumps down and coat them with the stuff.
