This Jawfish has managed to grab 20+ small cerith snails from around the tank to solidify his den.  When they start to move to escape, he gets pissed, and then bites at them.  The smarter ceriths have managed to seek refuge in the sump.

If anyone wants a fish with a great personality, get a Jawfish.  Just make sure the top is sealed up tight... until they find where they want their den they are prone to jumping out.

That is awesome! Looks like he may have an escapee to attend to. lol. I like the Stocky Ceriths. They seem to be hardier than those small ones and do better work-and I'll bet your buddy couldn't make a den out of those! Too funny...

That's too funny...mine keeps trying to steal my emerald crab and use him as a body guard...he let's himself be pulled to the opening of the den and then just walks away...lol

thIs is one of the funniest fish I have had, other than my triggers...

What a great pic!  and funny story....

I have literally 100's of smaller whales eye shells, your wecome to some.  Maybe you can sneak the live snails away and replace them with the empty shells?

can you have a jawfish with a midas blenny? or is there some similar body type war that would happen?

Yep got both in my tank...my jawfish lives with a yellow shrimp goby too....

This sort of happens for my pistol shrimp. He grabs the snails thinking they are food, and then uses them to build his burrow. Eventually they move off and mess things up XD I love jawfish though, on the dream list =)

Quantum had a small one last weekend. :)

I have a small cube I am thinking about making into a jawfish specific tank. Have 5-6 jawfish kn there and watch them pop up and down. How cool would that be.

Cool, until they kill each other...

Very territorial against other jawfish supposedly!

I'd love to find mine a mate, but have no clue how to sex it...

Male Jawfish supposedly have a bigger head than females. This makes sense as they are mouth brooding fish, and the males hold the eggs.

There is a rumor that a male has two black dots under his chin, but that isn't true as I have seen males without the dots.

I think the only real way to guarantee a pair is to have multiple Jawfish. Maybe 4-5 in a tank and watch them pair up.

You usually cant housemultiple blue spotted jawfish, but the pearly ones with the yellow heads can be housed together.

This thread is KILLING me!  Jenn you need to get one where I can come over and stare at it.  Jawfish are my favorite and we have not had luck with our last two.
