So the survivors of my tank boiling are what appear to be Serpent Sea Stars. That is an ID by me... so I could be completely wrong. I have noticed when I feed, these "worms" have been coming out of my red monti cap, waving around for any loose food.

I had my frogspawn on a rock that rested on top of the monti cap rock before I placed it into my BC29, which crashed today. When I was looking over all my corals (the FS completely melted) I noticed on the bottom two of these long legged sea stars. I quickly put two and two together, and realized that the monti cap has a colony of them living inside the big rock and around it!

It's amazing to me that they they survived the scathing temps, not only that, but that they stay so well hidden! I don't suppose it's  bad thing, if anything probably a great thing that they are all there... but I'm thinking my diagnosis is wrong, because live aquaria says they can get up to about a foot long!

It sounds like you have the "mirco" brittle starfish which are a common hitchhiker. My old setosa had hundreds of them in it. I'm surprised they survived too since starfish are normally the delicate ones.

Coral Hind, if you don't mind my asking, where did that setosa go? Reason is, I picked up a large one from Steve recently when he broke things down. It's probably 8 inches across and has micro brittles living in it.

If anyone has some micro brittles I'd love to grab some from you...maybe at fragfest. After I got my pepermint hog all of my micro brittles disappeared...and then of course the hogfish went carpet surfing

The 14" across colony went to Fazio. If you look at his TOTM thread you can see it in his tank.

Not the same, then. Funny how these micro brittles like living inside like they do. I find it amusing to watch all those little arms sweeping about at feeding time.

I got it from Chris Tran and he did sell other smaller colonies off of the larger one so you probably do have the same lineage of setosa.

Lots of mini brittles, bristleworms, and a bunch of other creatures are living in my 30g. They all come out as soon as food hits the water.

The bristleworm population has been on the rise lately. So I have been hunting those down once a month. They are sneaky.
