My snail have been laying eggs this last couple months and now they are in a stage that look like bird food.

I can see some just "flying" in main tank but theres thousands (I believe) in sump. I took the socks out. Should I turn the skimmer out ? Something special that I want to do / add ?

i have a gazillion eggs and I don't recall seeing any baby snails...I am not sure they actually hatch really in our aquariums....but maybe I don't notice it if they do....i know my nerite snails have made my entire tank look like its coated in sesame seeds and I know they don't usually ever hatch in our tanks....

so I guess I am saying,,,,,tagging along lol...would love to know as well!!!

Baby snails certainly do happen. I have TONS of the little guys in my Biocube. I did nothing special of course, so I can't provide any advice.

From my understanding is it takes many moons, and even if the do hatch they quickly become fish food. I've seen my tang go at the eggs.

what kind of snails?

Well, you could always scoop them up and sell them to a fancy resturant as snail caviar!?

I have many baby snails and snail eggs in my tank on a constant basis. I couldn't tell you which type as I have 5-6 different types in my tank. I do however have to clean my skimmer intake a lot as a bunch of babies always end up there and die. I can say that I have some that were babies a month or so ago that are now getting a bit bigger.

I do have Ceriths.... Along with nassarius, mexican turbos, nerites, and Astreas.  No idea which the eggs are coming from though.

well aren't you curious now?  I expect some research and reporting...

what do the eggs look like?

I've had many snails, ceriths and nerites mostly, breed and develop over the years. I don't do anything special for them. I do have a deep sand bed where I'll often find them in their smallest stages. They also tend to grow well in one of several auxiliary tanks like the macroalgae refugium. I'm sure many become food, but some do survive and grow.

I believe Cerith eggs come in long strands but the eggs I have are separate white dots, that look like the beginning stages of coraline.  After closer inspection of the babies, I believe mine are Nerite snail eggs and babies.

Sounds like nerites eggs alright.

But I guess to get back to the OP, and not my eggs that I could care less about.

Is there a reason you want them gone?  Are there really that many?

hmmmmm my entire tank is completely covered in these but i dont think ive noticed babies anywhere...tomorrow im going to check every inch lol

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww!!!

I always seee baby............somethings.  I dont know if they are stomatellas, or something else.  Then they vanish off the glass and I never see them again.

what kind of snails?

lol, I was just about to ask..

I'm 90% certain that the majority are stomatellas, but there are some other baby snails that look different. I haven't added snails to this tank since last Oct and I have a slew of babies of all varieties. In fact, the only big snail I regularly see is the turbo.

Odd(?) this was mentioned as I found these on my tank sides and a few other places.  Def not stomatellas.  Notice the algae on them?  Looks like they have been around for a while, a good 2-3 weeks at least?

I sucked up 4 of them with the turkey baster and put them in a basic 6"x6" tupaware bowl.  I copied and pasted one of the letering on the bottom to give you a scale size of the baby.  Guess I need to go out and buy cigars???

Looks like a collonista snail to me...........

Well, thats good but fooo, I was hoping they were trocus snail babies.  Oh well, the shrimp spawned so I guess the cigars will still be able to be put to use.

No, I think your right because I have those also and the shells are completely different. Since the baby looking ones had spiral shells like the trochus (and white), I was hoping thats what baby trochus's looked like and they would morph a little more when they got older. A good snail is a good snail though.
