Folta October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 So... just like many people, I've had my suction cups lose suction... most of the time, the pump has harmlessly landed on rock below... But not today! :wall: Today, when I got home from work and peered into my tank.. I saw my one maxijet leaning onto a rock (one suction cup still holding)... and the intake landed right on my one hairy shroom! I've freed it, but about 90% of the shroom is... gone. :bigcry: I think it will recover though. This thing has split twice already, and the part thats left looks ok. I'll have to snap a shot of it. Anyay, the other 'mounting clip' that the maxijet comes with doesn't even come close to fitting on my tank. Any suggestions? I was considering buying a pair of magnets for each pump, glueing one to the maxijet, and then having it hold like a magnet cleaner on the side...
Jon Lazar October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 Tim, There's a thread in the Reefcentral DIY group about how to glue a cleaning magnet onto a powerhead. It's got the specifics of what size magnet, type of epoxy, and helpful tips like roughing up the gluing surface to make it stick better. Makes it easy to move the powerhead around, too. That's what I would do. You could also try putting the powerhead into your rockwork in such a way that you don't need suction cups to hold it. Wedge it inbetween the back wall of your tank and some rocks or something. Might be hard to get it in just the right spot though. I've also seen people post that you can put a blob of silicone on the concave side of your suction cup, and then attach it to the glass. Apparently this makes it stick a lot better. Hope this helps, Jon
rocko918 October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 Jon, do you have a link to the thread on rc? i would to read it. I guess i could do a search on the off peak times.
Jon Lazar October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 I think that's the one RC thread I don't have saved as a favorite :( I tried searching too, but I got the "tip" about not banging the search button. Jon Jon, do you have a link to the thread on rc? i would to read it. I guess i could do a search on the off peak times. 40995[/snapback]
Jon Lazar October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 Ok, this is better. The first link is the one I remember seeing. The second is a link to a RC search for "magnet" and "powerhead". If it works, you'll get a list of my search results and you can check out other related threads. Some may be better or updated. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...owerhead+magnet http://reefcentral.com/forums/search.php?s...tby=&sortorder=

flowerseller October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 I take 1-2" wide strips of plexi, heat it and bend it around my top rim kind of like an upsidedown J. Then I use the PH mount misus the suck cups and zip tie it to the plexi strip and hang it on the rim. HTH Heloise More hints from Heloise are available.
flowerseller October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 I also know how to fold napkins into neat shapes for a special dinner.
Caribbean Jake October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 Chip all that works wjen the power head is near the surface. What do you do when the power head is halfway down the glass or near the buttom where you definetly need the suck cups?
flowerseller October 8, 2005 October 8, 2005 . What do you do when the power head is halfway down the glass or near the buttom I don't use suck cups at all. I just make a "capitol J". for it. :D I just make the J hook longer and mount the PH lower on the hook. Ask me how to make a clothes line from a piece of rope Heloise
