a pump?

Still learning about skimmers, pardon my ignorance:

See if you can locate a brand and model# and go from there! Couldn't tell what it is but looks familiar. Seen on here somewhere! AquaC?? NO! base too small!

I've looked all over, can't find a sticker, or an etching, anything... very confusing.

I think Paul (Piper27) have one like that with the center chamber! see if you can find his post.

Also, looks like it was mod for re-circulation. Is there another fitting not shown in pics?

This is my guess:

The gray elbow goes to the input of some kind of needlewheel pump, it looks like. The tee there is the venturi and it draws air through the black tubing, which is then chopped up by the pump. The output of the pump must swing back around under the box to feed the white PVC 45 inside the reaction chamber. The white PVC upright is the output side of the skimmer. It looks like there's a union missing with some equipment missing - either a tee or maybe an elbow and additional tubing. On the body of the skimmer is a barb. This is where the feed pump connects. The feed pump supplies water from the tank to the skimmer. It's normally something like a maxijet or a mag pump (depending upon the skimmer volume). As a rule of thumb, the flow rate into the skimmer should be such that the water spends, on average, 2-3 minutes in the skimmer body. Thus, a skimmer with a 6 gallon capacity should take about 120-180 gallons per hour from the feed pump.

A couple of questions, though.

Is there a place for a skimmer pump in the black box? And, is there a plug in the barb fitting on the body or is that just an old piece of tubing there?

Will check when I get home today, not sure.

I had one like this about 3 years ago and it was very similar, the only difference was the venturi mine didn't have that tee and the venturi, I had a mag 12 running it and it worked great. Are you planning to run a dedicated pump for it or are you using a manifold and running it off a main return pump?

It might be too big for my tank, I only have a 55 gallon. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet!

This is misc. equipment, I'm not starting anything new, trust me.

 Again ?
