I'm thinking about using the black heater hose for my return to help cut down on algea build up. Has anyone used this before? any reason why I shouldn't?

some Home Depot's (not woodbridges of course) carry a black water line hose... I have used it MANY times in the past for my return line and never had an issue... Had it for 4 years on my 150g for 2 return pumps...

Is your return pump external and out of the water? You could wrap the hose in electrical tape to block the light.

I don't know if it's the same thing, but they do make black vinyl/plastic tubing that's the same as the clear stuff only black. I believe HD/Lowe's carry it. I've used it on many tanks and it's fine.

BRK carries black pond hose. I have used it for years on my return pump for my old 75 gallon with no ill effects.

I use black silicon tubing. Its great. Prevents algae growth and provides good isolation from vibration.

radiator hose is reinforced with metal fibers, I wouldn't use it on a reef tank. Check out a local pool and spa outlet. They will have what you are looking for. Probably cheaper than aquarium specific stuff.
