Nothing. I have a backup switch that triggers an alarm if the first fails. Its never gone off. That's not to say it can't, its just not a big enough worry that I bother with any prevantative matinenance.

My current ato, from autotopoff.com, has a safety float also, it's never failed and set off the safety in 2 years of use so I've never bothered to clean the lower float. My old ultralife ato stuck a few times and I had to clean it with vinegar.

I use a pressure switch. No moving parts, I periodically (maybe twice a year at most) look at it to make sure the tube is still clear, but that's about it.
