Panda February 13, 2012 February 13, 2012 So, we got a green bubble tip on Saturday. I thought the covering on our filter intake was good enough that he couldn't get sucked in but I was wrong. Fortunately it happened while I was right there so I took the filter intake off and put him in a specimen container with some tank water and let him work himself out it. He managed to get himself free pretty quickly and he looks good, I can't see any damage or anything. And as soon as he freed himself he attached to the container. We put better covers on all intakes and power heads and laid the container on it's side in the sand bed, figuring he'd come out when he was ready. But that was late Saturday night, maybe 1:00 a.m. or so, and now Monday morning he's still there. He's definitely still alive. He's moving his tentacles and even moving from place to place in the container but he doesn't seem to have any interest in actually leaving it. I do not want to force him out, I figure he's been through enough trauma lately. But I didn't know if maybe there was anything I could do to encourage or coax him out? It's just my luck he'll decide the container is the perfect home and won't ever leave it!
flowerseller February 13, 2012 February 13, 2012 put the container exactly where you want the anemone to be. It will move to the other side of the tank. Then you can grab it.
Coral Hind February 13, 2012 February 13, 2012 You could point a powerhead into the container which would encourage it to find a new home. While it is on the move it should be easy to remove it from the container. I just use fingernail and slower work at peeling the foot back. Just take your time and it will release.
OUsnakebyte February 13, 2012 February 13, 2012 Yup, if it's sticking on a smooth surface, use your fingernail or a credit card to get under the foot. Go slowly, and once it starts to release, it should peel up easily. Can you snap a pic? Cheers Mike

But if he's still in the container when I get home this afternoon I'll take a pic and give it a try with my fingernail.
davelin315 February 13, 2012 February 13, 2012 As was suggested, just peel it off. If you happen to nick it, it might divide into two and then you can have a headache trying to figure out how to get three to stay put! By the way, I've had a bubble tip go through overflow teeth, down a standpipe, then halfway through a drip plate. I messed with it until it fell out and then put it back with no damage.
clearsky57 February 13, 2012 February 13, 2012 Hmmmmm... my dilema is how do you get them to stay in one spot.... I like the "put him where you want him to be and he will be in the spot you don't wan't him" scenario.... maybe I should use reverse pyschology...........
Big Country February 13, 2012 February 13, 2012 Anemone's will go where they want to go, nothing you can do about it unless you box them in with screen or something. Where they end up is usually right where don't want them and you will have to move corals away from them.

I laughed so hard I snorted when I read this earlier today at work. But the day I wind up with three is the day I post at least one for sale/trade! He's still in the container. Picture below. You can see the edge of the container to the left. I'll try to nudge him out, probably after dinner. But for now I keep hoping if I procrastinate long enough he'll come out on his own.
Coral Hind February 14, 2012 February 14, 2012 Well, it looks very healthy. Good luck with the relocation.
Panda February 14, 2012 Author February 14, 2012 Yay! My Wegmans card worked like a charm. I placed him about 8-10 inches from where I would like him to go. Maybe he'll find it, maybe not but hopefully now he'll find his sweet spot, where ever that may be, without any more drama!
Coral Hind February 14, 2012 February 14, 2012 Awesome job!! If you have powerheads I would turn them off until he finds a place and settles down. It may prevent it from getting sucked up.
treesprite February 16, 2012 February 16, 2012 Mine has not even tried to stray from where I first put it in in December. I think the biggest factor in it staying put is that there is a complex hole area in which it can anchor it's foot and recede when feeling threatened. It feels secure.
