Saw something on a new book by Tony Vargas called "Life coach for your reef" and wanted to check it out. Foster and Smith has the book listed at $45, then we have "clownfishes" for about $200 and Im sure there are other examples. Why cant these books be $20 like most every other book that is printed.

We have a library you are able to check out books from. The clownfishes book is not in there, but a number others are. A list, well, I need to get a full list posted. What are you looking for?

Clownfishes has been out of print for a long time and with the new craze of breeding fish it has become invaluable for marine aquarists. The price has only gone up - for awhile there was a vendor who had around 30 of them and was selling them for face value... they didn't last very long. When you are also talking about only having used copies available and they go for that amount, it's crazy. I got mine for $20 some odd awhile back used from someone. Have never even read it but figured it was worth buying and having.

It's just amazing that a paperback book can cost so much. My copy is brand new. I think I opened it twice. Same for Aquatic Systems Engineering; not an easy book for laypersons.

^Jan, I have been keeping my eye out for that book for a while. If you ever consider parting with it let me know first! I missed my chance years ago when it was still in print.

Do we still have the "corals of the world" by Vernon available?

These books are on par with the pricing for similar reference books in other hobbies/topics. The publisher increases the price to compensate for the projected low sales volume relative to the classical literature involving vampires. rolleyes.gif

Will do.
