Origami January 20, 2012 January 20, 2012 Hey, Darren, is it a noisy pump or air intake? Impeller noise or pump vibration? This might give one of the Avast guys a little more information.
lowsingle January 20, 2012 Author January 20, 2012 Good point Origami, the primary cause of noise is pump vibration, though air intake is loud as well......
GraffitiSpotCorals January 20, 2012 January 20, 2012 I couldn't resist, past 7 I get a little cheesy sorry. Wish I could help though!
ctenophore January 20, 2012 January 20, 2012 Pump vibration: pump is isolated from everything else by the uniseal. Make sure it is pressed all the way in so the pump is not resting on the sump bottom. It should be suspended about 1/4" off the bottom. Also make sure the output nozzle is tightened to the male threaded pump output. If this doesn't help, can you tell if the pump makes noise on it's own, if removed from the skimmer and just handheld underwater? air intake: if the silencer is not silencing enough, try adding an extra length of tubing from the silencer intake up to the lid. I drilled out one of the lid's vent holes to accept a 1/8" npt elbow barb, and attached the extra tubing there. It adds another level of sound damping, having to go through the lid as well, without restricting air intake. Hope this helps!
