epleeds February 25, 2011 Author February 25, 2011 u are the man. i guess if i open my eyes and read the page then I would have figured that out. thanks... just ordered it. when you put it in the tank, do you need to rinse it or can it just go right in. I would be putting it in an established tank with about 70 pounds of rock already.
FearTheTerps February 25, 2011 February 25, 2011 (edited) I've heard alot of people say that just add the dry to an establish tank, but I myself wouldnt trust it unless its a very large system that could handle a mini cycle. What I would do is put it in some water(say from a water change), let it set for a few days to a week or more, then test to see if any any nutrients were released from the rock. Supernova26 February 25, 2011 February 25, 2011 there is a lot of dead material in those rocks that can release phosphates in the water. If you are not worried about phosphates put it straight in the tank but I recommend nuking the rock first. A nice vinegar bath for a couple of weeks will do the job.
zygote2k February 25, 2011 February 25, 2011 Just rinse them off with a garden hose or in the sink to remove any loose particles and throw them right in. You'll be fine. I've used them like this before.

I dd this, in a 90 total gallon system, no issues.. I did half and then a 2 weeks later, I did the other half. I had an issue with majonos and this was an easy fix.. I did have a little diatom bloom, but no issues. In a barebottom tank I would worry more, but I have a 2 in sand bed in the DT and then a refuge with more, so I didnt feel there was any real concern..
