Looking for Free / cheap acrylic pieces

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the offer Beatle - can you measure and see if you will have enough plus some for your patches?

I would need a total of 6 pieces: 3 pieces 16" x 11 3/4", 2 pieces 13" x 11 3/4", 1 piece 15" x 11 3/4"

I wanted to separate the fuge on the end for several reasons.

control the flow - too much may stir things up too much, plus I want good conditions for pod's.

separate sections make it easier to work on different parts without affecting the other side.

with 2 intakes I can have non-skimmed water going into the fuge area.

The more GPH, the further apart the baffles should be or you will create velocity and just pull and even draw bubbles along with the flow.

I know this because I am a florist . :)

It just seems to me that that much flow in a 10x12 box will be pretty strong and may also create bubbles. I might be wrong but if you actually do get 900gph from that pump accounting for head and friction loss, that's as much 450gph thru each little area and not a lot of time to disperse them bubbles. Can you maybe dump return water into a sponge or floss like material that you're prepared to clean several times a week?

Based on flow curves for a mag 9.5 and 4 ft of head plus some misc. factors, I think flow will be closer to 600 gph.

I also found some reasonable priced sheets of glass at Home Depot - the question I have is, the glass is only 3/32" thick.

I'm thinking that is too thin - what do you guys think?

I'm pretty sure it's a standard 30g long, 36x12x16. One of the long sides is cracked, but the two ends, bottom, and other side are intact. If you'd like to pick it up, just stop by. It's somewhat dirty and has been sitting outside for a couple months, but should be good for your purposes. I only have two holes to patch, roughly 2.5" in diameter, so I'm sure there will be some left over.

Thanks Matt - I I will take you up on your offer biggrin.gif

David - could I take you up on your offer too? Help me break up the tank and cut the glass? Maybe we could work out a time this weekend?
