epleeds September 11, 2010 September 11, 2010 So I am trying to set up my Aqua lifter to act as my top off pump. Still having issues on how to program my RKL, but that's another story. So i turn the aqua lifter on just to make sure it pumps the water through it and of course it works. I then unplug it and it stops pumping it out, but it is still having a steady drip about every second. Kind of like a leaky pipe. The good news is its only coming out of the end of the hose that is over my sump, but the bad new is I have no idea how to stop it from dripping. Kind of defeats the purpose of knowing how much you are topping off you sump and at what rate. Is this a normal problem with the aqua lifter, or am I just the lucky one... and if anyone knows how to set up the timer on the RKL, that would be helpful. I figured that I need .8 gallons of top off per day. The aqua lifter pushes .06 a minute(my calculations) so I am guessing I need it on for 12 minutes a day and I should be good, plus i have to factor in the drip rate of the tubing if i can't figure that out too. thanks....
Coral Hind September 11, 2010 September 11, 2010 It sounds like you have siphon issue and you need to break the siphon some how. Make sure the top off container level is not higher then the pumps output hose. Maybe raise the output hose some or even run it to the tank instead of the sump.
gwweber September 11, 2010 September 11, 2010 na i hang my pump on the stand right under the tank. The intake is in a 5 gal water bottle and the feed into the tank is driping in from up top. Just keep the pump higher then the level of water in your fresh water and the exaust is out of the sump so you dont create a siphon
jrok September 11, 2010 September 11, 2010 On my old system i had the same issue so I put a tee in my 1/4" line, turned it vertically and secured it about 2 ft above the tank and left the end open, the lower line goes into sump. This prevented any siphon.
davelin315 September 11, 2010 September 11, 2010 I added a T to the line and then put a one way air valve at the T above the water level. This broke the siphon every time.
silverspringnano September 12, 2010 September 12, 2010 +1 to the siphon issue...had the same problem...I just poked a hole in the 1/4" tube right above the water level in my top off container.
