davelin315 August 22, 2010 August 22, 2010 Looks slightly like Pachyseris or Elephant Skin coral, a type of sps. There's several types and growth patterns, but they typically look similar to what you've got. Could also be a Hydnophora, although you'd notice aggressive polyp extension.
Coral Hind August 22, 2010 August 22, 2010 Looks slightly like Pachyseris... I agree. They need strong lighting and flow.
zygote2k August 22, 2010 Author August 22, 2010 I got it from Travis about a year ago as 2 small patches on the rock. High light has never been a problem especially with the cannon.
zygote2k August 22, 2010 Author August 22, 2010 I think it's Pachyseris and not a Pavona. I have a Pavona and it looks nothing like the other.
davelin315 August 25, 2010 August 25, 2010 I've seen Pavona that look like that one, too. It's hard to tell as there are different kinds of each, some with larger polyps, some with smaller polyps. Some of them have smaller ridges and some larger, and the two are often confused.
Der ABT August 25, 2010 August 25, 2010 i had a piecce of pavona that was exactly like this i lost in the move, though not sure if the person i got if from was right about what it was. nice color though, may have to get another piece of that one day
CHUBAKAH August 25, 2010 August 25, 2010 Pavona decussatus is my guess. A lot of the Pavonas I have seen though normally have a slight resemblance to the cyphastrea in that they have small circular polyps.
rocko918 August 25, 2010 August 25, 2010 pavona Here is what mine looked like up close http://studiohbd.com/fishtanks/01_jan/pages/IMG_0025.html
zygote2k August 25, 2010 Author August 25, 2010 I still don't think it's Pavona. It doesn't have circular polyps.
