El Camaron July 28, 2010 July 28, 2010 no not under personal computers would it thryve under power compacts? i was wondering if i should put one in a small tank with my semi snowflake clowns.
BowieReefer84 July 28, 2010 July 28, 2010 What wattage and how close to surface? My guess would be no.
surf&turf July 28, 2010 July 28, 2010 (edited) I've got an GBTA under PC. Is growing and doing great. I use the UVL bulbs. Edited July 28, 2010 by surf&turf
Coral Hind July 28, 2010 July 28, 2010 If you keep the bulbs fresh, water clear by using GAC, and the photo-period at 12 hours you could do it depending on depth of the tank and bulb height.
El Camaron July 28, 2010 Author July 28, 2010 it would be on a 14 gallon biocube, not sure on wattage but the bulbs are really close to the water and the water is kept clear and clean.
Coral Hind July 28, 2010 July 28, 2010 You are fine, I have seen several different 14g BioCubes with BTA's in them. It can quickly outgrow the tank and it will not leave much room for corals.
rocko918 July 28, 2010 July 28, 2010 I kept a RBTA in a 12gallon nano for years with 1 small pc in it. grew fine, had good color. Make sure you feed it. I did alot of water changes though.
Coral Hind July 28, 2010 July 28, 2010 I don't like GAC w/BTA's It just needs to be rinsed very, very, well.
zygote2k July 29, 2010 July 29, 2010 You can grow sps under pc's, so there shouldn't be an issue with a BTA.

El Camaron July 29, 2010 Author July 29, 2010 i guess ill give a small one a try (thats what she said ) lol anyways, thanks for the help guys.
jason the filter freak July 29, 2010 July 29, 2010 make sure to heed the warming about a rapidly expanding bta, dont feed it if you can resist
BowieReefer84 July 29, 2010 July 29, 2010 I have a question (not trying to change this thread). Seems El Cam has already decided to keep one. How do you handle bta's? What types of other corals will they go after/sting/kill? I reach in my tank on a regular basis right now (I am going to get gloves soon I promise...). Would I be an idiot to reach in a tank with a bta? Thanks. I have always thought they would cause me problems, but don't know too much I guess.
Coral Hind July 29, 2010 July 29, 2010 I have never had issues handling any of my BTA's or working in the tank without gloves. BTA's do seem to sting most corals, especially SPS when they come in contact with them. I do have some fragspawn that always wins when the BTA's get to close to them.

So you can handle the bta without gloves? I guess my question is, how do you place it in the tank after acclimation if you don't have gloves?
Coral Hind July 29, 2010 July 29, 2010 I don't use gloves for that. I just use my bare hands without any issues.
El Camaron July 29, 2010 Author July 29, 2010 i had a GBTA in the solana under T5's and it did not grow that fast because i did not feed it silver sides, just whatever it would catch while feeding other corals and fish with mysis and reef chilly. The only thing is that when it did start to move because i changed pump directions it stung a few SPS on its way to the other side, my guess is if i do end up putting one in my tank it would most likely stay close to the top so the few zoas and brain i have at the bottom would be ok.
