Novi May 25, 2010 May 25, 2010 I use to think I wouldn't get it. I never introduced it into my tank and I just won't get it. Weeeelllllll I was wrong....lol It is starting to grow all over my overflow box as well as my back wall. Its like trippling every day now with spots everywhere. Calcium is at 460ppm. I am seeing about a 10ppm loss per week so I just 2-Part Dose for now. Still have yet to see the Wrasse I am seriously considering a Chiller because these cool/hot days are making my tank fluctuate from 77 - 82 degrees. I know its only going to get worse when the 90 degree days come. How much of an impact am I looking at on my Elec. Bill getting a Chiller, and who can reccomend one? Added a bag of Carbon for the first time Saturday and today I really noticed how crystal clear it makes your water!! Nice. I am using Deep Blue Lab Grade carbon btw. Still have yet to see the Wrasse
Novi May 25, 2010 Author May 25, 2010 I have 2 and there not doing it. I have the ATI Powermodule 8x54w T5's and this thing pumps out some heat! I have it about 8-9 inches off the water too.
zygote2k May 25, 2010 May 25, 2010 Chris- If you're willing to shell out the coin for a chiller, why not scrap the T5's altogether and go with LED? You'll save big on the electric bill because using the t5's add heat and use wattage, you'll use a chiller which adds heat and uses wattage, and your central air will use more energy to cool the house from the exhaust of the chiller. I'll even make the statement that if you don't like the LED's, I'll buy them from you.
davelin315 May 26, 2010 May 26, 2010 Watch out for adding carbon too quickly. If you notice the water clarifying that quickly then your corals may get burned. I'd scale back the lights or put a screen over the top to diffuse and block it until they acclimate to it.
Novi June 2, 2010 Author June 2, 2010 Couple things.... I still have yet to see the Wrasse. Going on 2 weeks this Saturday What I belived was a Green Slimer Frag is growing really well. However, only its polyps are now green as the rest of it has seemed to turn a reddish-purple. So I am guessing it is not a Green Slimer?? Any ideas?
trockafella June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 I use metal halides and vho's, neither are very cool, but I keep the house at 70 and the chiller rarely runs, tank stays at 76-77.. But with that being said I live in an Apt, so I dont have to cool a big house.. As for the chiller, I have had 2 Current Chillers and have been very pleased.. I use a 1/10th HP chiller on my 72g and it does fine, even when the a/c broke for 2 days during the heat, it kept up well.. I also think JBJ makes a good one too..

That one I got from reefhunter- so maybe he can chime in . Jon
Novi June 2, 2010 Author June 2, 2010 Jon, yes it is. It has since doubled in size I want to say but remember how Green it was? Not anymore.... only its polyps are green and the rest has turned maroon. Any idea?

Any idea? How high is it in the tank? It might be reacting to the amount of light its getting in your tank now (could be a temporary adjustment, I'm sure the slimer can handle the extra light). You might have higher par at your lowest point than I do at my highest... Jon
Jon Lazar June 2, 2010 June 2, 2010 I have 2 and there not doing it. I have the ATI Powermodule 8x54w T5's and this thing pumps out some heat! I have it about 8-9 inches off the water too. I have 800W of metal halides and 300W of T5s in an enclosed hood. My three fans manage to keep the tank temp around 79-80 degrees. We run our AC at 78.
Novi June 3, 2010 Author June 3, 2010 I have not seen any ammonia spikes so I think the Wrasse is still alive, just a very good hider? I repeat that I have not seen him 1 time since adding him to the tank about 2 weeks ago. He didnt jump because I have searched everywhere around the tank and have not seen any sign of a decaying fish. Not in the sump either. When I feed the tank I figured maybe he would pop out to get a bite, but nothing. Is it possible, well I guess it is possible, but is it likely he died and my CUC smoked him so fast that nothing would even show up on tests?
