When to start skimming on a cycling tank?

If I remember correctly when I cycled my first tank years ago, you don't turn on the skimmer initially. Tank has now been running for two days. It has about 50lbs of dead rock. I will be adding some established live rock from my other tank. Not sure when to start skimming.

Day 1

I ran my skimmer after I added the sand to clear the water up, but turned it off after that since there wasn't any real reason to use it past then.

I'd also skim on the wetter side while watching my SG. I think many people feel that it is not as important to treat LR like an aquarium when the goal is to prepare it for and aquarium. Keeping up on even keeled SG is important. I'd also do a w/c on my aquarium and then change that into the LR tub as a w/c.

did you pee in the tank yet?

No but when my wife got up this morning she asked what the %$#* smell was. She said it smelled real Strong.

I hope you were talking about the tank.

Get the skimmer going and add some carbon to get that smell cleared up. The last thing you want is a spouse that is not happy with the tank.
