Show me your tank and stand! I'm going to design my own, and would like some room underneath... something like room for another 40br, or a 29 tall and some dosing equipment.

If anyone has any lessons learned or plans, I'd love to see those too!

Right now, I'm thinking a very clean design with four posts, and a top and bottom. For sides, I'd like them to be removable, either via magnets or a simple latch system.

I haven't given a lot of thought to staining yet, but all the wood in my apt is light. This will probably be important for the side panels, but I figure the standard 2x4 with metal reinforcements is fine for the stand.

Anyone out there acre to chime in? This will be my first woodworking project so ... I'll need all the help I can get!

mine is a skeleton made of 2x4's. basically a frame to support the tank and a frame for the bottom and then doubled up 2x4's on the corners. makes it easy to put a 24 gallon rubbermaid sump underneath and the ballast for the halide. I'll post pics later.

Alright! Looking forward to it!

Probably not what you were thinking, but at least I'm posting pics like you asked for (this thread is useless without pics!)

I had an old kitchen cabinet I moved into my basement when I bought the house. I store paint and stuff inside it.

I stacked some 4x4s on top of it. Instant stand for my 40BR fuge. Nice and high, too. I hate short stands. Tall enough, in fact, to gravity feed back into my sump.

Actually, this is useful... height is important. About how high is yours? Like 36ish?

Thanks

I can't take a pic because of where the construction is, but....

The one I'm building, which now just needs a "skin", is similar to the one the link shows instructions for, except mine has 2 of 2x4s for the inside leg supports instead of just one (connected like L), and I have vertical front and back center supports instead of the horizontal bar (IMO the bar isn't enough support for a 75). A skin can be attached without those exterior 2x4s he put on the diagram for that purpose.

A note about that design though.... you won't be able to fit a second 40 breeder under there unless the stand is over-sized for the one you are putting on top.

here is my DIY stand a 60G sits on top, and a 20G "long underneath, the painted acrylic with flames is held on by magnets, I made the stand tall as I am a tall person and don't like to crouch over just to see my little Reef. hope this sparks your imagination. Save your self some time and pre measure, I had home depot cut each piece even since they don't do precision cuts, then I used the left overs for support on the bottom and where the tank sits.

I can measure it later, not sure off hand. I'd estimate at least 36 though. I know I like them much higher than the ones they sell in stores.

You can see in my dedicated mantis shrimp thread how I extended a standard height stand in the first few pics here: LINK
