ctenophore January 13, 2010 Share January 13, 2010 So it turns out this cold winter we're having is affecting coastal sea surface temperatures enough to cause the sea turtles to flip out (no pun intended). Vets at the University of Florida (go Gators!!), along with several other state agencies have been busy trying to rescue several thousand turtles that have beached themselves. They ran out of room so my friend Todd and I volunteered some extra tanks at my FL greenhouse. The UF folks were thrilled to have extra space to help the turtles recover. Since this thread would otherwise be worthless without pics: This skimmer ought to get a workout from handling 20 lb turtle poop!

arwndsh January 13, 2010 Share January 13, 2010 Thats awesome that you are doing this Justin. I visited the Turtle Hospital in Marathon, FL a few years back and it seems they are having the same problem. They have a huge holding facility but its outside and not inclosed in any way. Here is a link to an article on their website about all of this. http://www.turtlehospital.org/blog/
Coral Hind January 13, 2010 Share January 13, 2010 Justin, That is just awesome that you are able to offer that valuable space. That has to make you feel good at the end of the day.
