cabrego October 31, 2009 October 31, 2009 Do you have many SPS? From what I have read Interceptor is the only cure and you will need to remove your crustaceans (snails, crabs, etc.) if you want them to not be hampered by the treatment. Interceptor is sometimes hard to get a hold of because it is a prescription dog medication that must be acquired from a veterinarian. The good news is red bugs are supppose to be less of an issue than flatworms. Read this link if you haven't already...gl http://www.melevsreef.com/redbugs.html
Jan October 31, 2009 October 31, 2009 (edited) Do you know anyone, family, friends, neighbors, that has a dog? Could you ask them if they have interceptor. You MUST take out all of your inverts before you use it. Try not to panic. There is nothing you can do until you get the treatment. I'm sorry this has happened and good luck. NamReefs October 31, 2009 Author October 31, 2009 thank you alot you guy. but i just contact fin and feather about the treatment. my friend say they sell the treatment but still not contact to the owner yet. thank alot everyone
davelin315 October 31, 2009 October 31, 2009 Guys, Interceptor is a controlled substance and I don't believe that Fins and Feathers has a pharmaceutical license to dispense it. If they do, then by all means go there to get some, but make sure you have a prescription. In case anyone is about to offer to sell it, or ask to buy it, refer to this thread: http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=32396.
lanman October 31, 2009 October 31, 2009 You will note that the recommendations were to get some 'legally' himself. What you need is a dog... or a friend with a dog... I have not yet treated my display tank with interceptor; because I can't imagine catching my little pistol shrimp - and I don't want to kill him. However... it will be done eventually; one way or another. I have removed almost all of the hermits; picking out a few each day when I can find them. I expect to have to reseed copepods from other systems after treatment. The systems I have treated - it was VERY easy. I used the formula to determine how many mg of ground up pill I needed. Mixed that with a little tank water. Added it to the tank, turned off the 'bubbles' in the skimmer. I let it go for about 16 hours, and then did a 10% water change, and started running carbon. Did another 10% the next day. I have seen absolutely no problems caused by it - and no redbugs. bob

Already had a concern reported about this thread so I thought I'd be proactive.

I inspected his whole tank that day and I didn't see a single pest. I don't know what they would have been eating on since he didn't have any acros that I saw, just a large Heliopora coerulea and some softies.
Sikryd November 1, 2009 November 1, 2009 Interceptor also doesn't kill ALL inverts. Snails are generally fine at the regular dose. I only lost 1 shrimp out of 4. All hermits that I missed were lost. Definitely easy to dose.

I am glad you were able to find some interceptor then. Of all the pests I have ever had I would take red bugs over any of them. I guess this brings up a good point that corals and fish are not the only things that should be quarantined, live rock also needs to be.

I hope you find success with your treatments.
