dmward99 July 15, 2009 July 15, 2009 I was in Tropical Lagoon today and noticed that they got in new shipments of fish and coral today but the didn't acclimate the corals. They said they only acclimate fish.Does everyone do this?
Brian Ward July 15, 2009 July 15, 2009 i don't acclimate corals. I float them in the water for a while to get the temperature adjusted and then toss them in. i used to drip and seemed to lose a lot more of them - I'm guessing due to temperature fluctuation.
watson_barrett July 15, 2009 July 15, 2009 same here, just float and dump (well not litterally)... this is especially true for shipments, i want to get them out of the cr@p slime water ASAP...
flowerseller July 15, 2009 July 15, 2009 I float, treat, and put in a tank to watch before deciding what to do with.

treesprite July 15, 2009 July 15, 2009 Is there any reason people can't float while drip acclimating? Aren't you worried about ph fluctuation?
lhcorals July 16, 2009 July 16, 2009 I float , dip, look at through magnifying glass. If i dont see anything of concern, into the tank.

OUsnakebyte July 16, 2009 July 16, 2009 I just put them right into a q-t tank, after acclimating to temp. Of course, when I get a dry shipment, I just dump them right in to q-t.
Jan July 16, 2009 July 16, 2009 Float Inspect with a magnifying glass, Dip, dip, dip (coral dip and or fresh water depending on what it is) QT for a few days. Inspect with lights on and off. If I don't see anything in a couple to a few days, into the main tank it goes.
Nate July 16, 2009 July 16, 2009 When you guys say you dip multiple times, does that mean you put the coral back in the same dip or do you mix up a new batch? How long do you dip for and what products do you use? I have never personally seen any "red bugs." Are they just red flat worms?
DDiver July 16, 2009 July 16, 2009 (edited) U can use the same dip, it won't make a difference.Unless u are using TMPCC, says u should discard after an hour..And Redbugs are not flatworms, they are a nuisance copepod that's very hard to see with the naked eye... Edited July 16, 2009 by DDiver
