Gadgets July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 Took some pic of my skimmers and GSMGuy(Nick) New ATB Deluxe. Gotta love them all. :D BK Alpha 200 and ATB Econo 840
jamesbuf July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 So the delux is reciprocating? I notice two adapters just before the pump. One for water and the other for air?? Is that how new water gets into the skimmer, or is there another port for new water to enter?
dgtlwar July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 Nice! I debating on whether or not to swap my BK mini 200 out for a Alpha 300.

U sure about that these skimmers are much bigger than you think. What size is your tank. If your using a Bk mini 200 I think the alpha 200 will be just fine.
jamesbuf July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 So which one are you using? I'd love to see the ATB delux up and running. Where in the world were you able to find it for sale?
Gadgets July 10, 2009 Author July 10, 2009 I'm running the Bk Alpha and the ATB Econo now. That deluxe is the first in the country. They are not really for sale yet.

I saw the Alpha 200 in person @ BRK yesterday. I'm in the process of upgrading my whole system. Once I'm done, total water volume will be over 400 gallons. I plan on running the 200 for a while to see if it can keep up, but I'll probably end up getting rid of it.

Honestly, if you got the 250 I think you would be Fine with that bio load even if it was heavily stocked. These skimmers have HUGE necks and huge necks require big bio loads and a good water to air ratio to create a good foam head.
dgtlwar July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 I'll check out the 250. I looked at the 200 then went straight to the 300. I don't want to run into an issue where I'll have to swap out again. I just bought the mini 200 about 3 months ago. It's doing great on my temporary 65 btw.

zygote2k July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 This conversation sounds like a few guys discussing the differences between their red sportscars.
Gadgets July 10, 2009 Author July 10, 2009 This is just under 48hrs. :D BTW the turbulence in the neck is almost gone. I expect this thing to get better and better.
dgtlwar July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 250 it is then. Just waiting on the new tank. Honestly I think the 250 will be just fine. No need for the 300 unless u plan to upgrade even higher.
dgtlwar July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 This conversation sounds like a few guys discussing the differences between their red sportscars. I've owned a few skimmers over the past few years. I'm a true believe now in you get what you pay for.
Gadgets July 10, 2009 Author July 10, 2009 If u have time, give Jeremy at premium aquatics a call. See what he says between the 250 and the 300.
zygote2k July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 I notice that the slope of the cone is not too far from vertical. How much difference is there between the performance of a cone vs. the performance of a column? Especially with a cone that's almost not.

How much difference is there between the performance of a cone vs. the performance of a column? Especially with a cone that's almost not. I dunno. Supposed to be better, but not sure by how much. I'm sure the BK standard column skimmers can produce just as much quality skimmate as the conical ones. Apparently Klaus decided not to do cones at first because he felt the super marines performed better.
zygote2k July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 If no one knows how much better or why it's better, then tell me why these skimmers are any better than an ASM of equal size? Has anyone ever done side by side comparisons? How easy is it to get parts and or service for the pumps? Do you really need titanium bolts and cell-cast acrylic?
Gadgets July 10, 2009 Author July 10, 2009 Zygote2k - Why are u making a big deal out of nothing. People will always argue about skimmer brands, quality and efficientcy. If u wanna know the answer to ur question, buy them all and test them otherwise it's mostly theory. This thread was solely meant to show some of the latest in skimmer technology. If u have a problem with that MOVE ON bro!
Gadgets July 10, 2009 Author July 10, 2009 BTW there is no better way to show ur ignorance of skimmers than to say ASMs skim just as good as a Deltec, ATB, or BK. I'm done. Mods close this please.
Leishman July 10, 2009 July 10, 2009 BTW there is no better way to show ur ignorance of skimmers than to say ASMs skim just as good as a Deltec, ATB, or BK. Amen

I think a fairer question would be whether or not a BK skimmed just as good as 4-5 ASM's. Oh... and by the way - my Miata is a lot more fun than your Porsche! bob
