Sorry if this is a repost

I have never heard of an upside down tank until I happen to see it on youtube. Pretty crazy, apparently there is a science to it, on top of maintaining a healthy reef.

the concept is really cool but i dont see it being that good for actual reef tanks, maybe for just fish only tanks. Either way still a cool tank.

Why not for reefs? and someone explain how that works... suction?

There is a video on how it works too.. It works like a syphon drawing ait to pull the water up... Pretty cool... That video is on youtube as well..

I understand the concept, but I can't figure out how the ones with air going up into them work and have spent the last 30 minutes watching youtube trying to figure it out. My head can't take the super annoying repetitiveness of techno, etc . I give up!

i guess you could but you would have to set up multiple lights to go around the middle upside down tank if im understanding it correctly.

Its a cool idea..but not very practical. I bet water changes are very difficult. I don't even wanna know what happens during a power outage.

Speaking of the cool & crazy, check this out!

Here's something of an explanation- http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=247021

very interesting, i have thought about this since there are so many river mouths that end up close to reefs which in term feed the reefs with all the nutrients it brings, you would figure that that part of the ocean the salinity would be lower and closer to fresh water and yet fish still find ways to get up stream.

I actually had a concept tank built in my mind the other day. It would me a much more legit "upside down" tank. It would be place above the entrance to my restaurant. Barebottom, high flow, live rock suspended on wires from the ceiling so you looked up into the bottom of a reef ledge. All coral would of course be sun coral. Very low calcium and mag so the coraline wouldn't build up. All flow directed to a corner overflow with a siphon tube at the bottom to collect detritus, run through a canister filter and uv to clarify. Pretty simple and I think would be a killer conversation piece when you are waiting for a table. I'll invite everyone over when it's built :)
