droyal1110 April 25, 2009 April 25, 2009 Well I am happy to report I'm finally back at my new house and my 55 is empty with all its inhabitants in buckets right now. The has been some set backs and my new tank is not full of water like I anticipated. Thus, I am going to be putting the livestock in even later. Well my question tonight is, since I just put sand in the tank, the water is cloudy. Is it ok to add fish and corals in the cloudy water or do I risk killing them off? I'm going to run a small filter sock to hopefully help but I would rather not leave the fish in a bucket overnight if I can avoid it. So again, is it ok to add the fish once the tank is at the correct salinity and temp and what not?
Origami April 26, 2009 April 26, 2009 (edited) I've not been following your adventures. Are you in a position where you might have a cycling of your new setup? As long as your fish are safe and comfortable in their temporary quarters, I'd make sure that your new setup has settled before dropping livestock in. Keep an eye out for ammonia, and such again until you're sure things have stabilized. Edited April 26, 2009 by Origami2547
droyal1110 April 26, 2009 Author April 26, 2009 I'm sorry I should specify. I just transferred everything from a 55 gallon that has been up for 7 months to buckets. The new tank is a 90 gallon with a 30 gallon which has about 80 gallons in it right now, plus the sump is only being used for about 20 gallons. I'm not cycling this tank, everything has to go in asap. My biggest concern is that I have all my corals, snails, and fish in 1 5 gallon bucket. I was hoping for everything would have been further along by now but my setback with the RO/DI unit has added atleast 10 hours to my plan. Thus, I was wondering if it was ok to add livestock to a cloudy tank, so long as the parameters check out ok.
Jon Lazar April 26, 2009 April 26, 2009 IMO you'll be fine to add everything to the cloudy tank, so long as there's no ammonia. The bucket is probably ok too if you're controlling temperature and using an airstone for aeration.

droyal1110 April 26, 2009 Author April 26, 2009 Well ammonia checked out okay, salinity and temp are good, the fish went in and what happens? One of my chromis are in zombie mode (it is late and the lights are still on) bouncing around with no sense of direction, and my clownfish still congregate in a corner at the surface.. so bizarre. Hopefully they will all still be alive when I awake in the morning =) Thanks for your help.
droyal1110 April 28, 2009 Author April 28, 2009 So far so good. I still have tons to do and unfortunately no time to do it. Tonight I need to test everything again to be sure there was no cycle, as of Sunday and yesterday there was no ammonia so hopefully that is that. I need to build a mini stand for my skimmer to sit on because it barely fits in my tank stand, but the output on the skimmer doesn't clear the wall of the sump (d'oh), so that's on the list for tonight. Along with that I need to figure out whats up with my lighting timer, I came home from duty this morning to see my lights were on when they weren't supposed to come on for another 2 hours. Along with those I need to get my ATO setup, I'm having issues decided where I want it, it seems like the sensors are more generalized than precise, hopefully this won't make much of a difference. After that is all said and done I really need to clean up =D Buckets everywhere, miscellaneous PVC parts, trash, not to mention I still have to unpack everything from the move. And most importantly, I have to aquascape . I put the rocks in when it was cloudy and couldn't see a thing, miraculously it actually turned out pretty well it just needs a little tweaking =D I think I'll leave it for the most part. Thanks for asking.
