Clyde April 7, 2009 April 7, 2009 My star polyp has not opened in weeks. I thought it was the galaxia stinging it but that has been out of my tank for 3 days now. every other coral and fish are doing great. Here is a pic. I thought I saw some white spots on it (might be sand) you can't realy see it in this pic. HELP. Thanx
Mich April 7, 2009 April 7, 2009 very blurry, but some of the white things loog like they could be little spionid worms.
L8 2 RISE April 7, 2009 April 7, 2009 try more flow, if the light is too intense, it could be a problem, same if it's way too weak but that really shouldn't be an issue with GSP. what are your params? if the nitrates are at 100% 0, the "easier" corals won't survive as they do need a little nitrate.
lanman April 7, 2009 April 7, 2009 Don't worry too much about it. They can do that sometimes. Use a turkey baster to clean it off good, give it some flow (they like to grow against the flow for some reason) and moderate lighting. One of these days soon, it will decide to open up for you! bob
TROLL April 8, 2009 April 8, 2009 GSP does that sometime. I have a lot in my tank and it seems to be a phrase they goes through once every while. Move him to medium flow and see how he do in few days. What's the spec in your tank- strong light shouldn't be a problem as I have some under MH and some under T5, PC, and regular wattage fluorescent. One of issue I have heard was water alkalinity was a bit too high- some of soft corals are sensitive to change in hardness. My xenia closed up for a while when I add calcium to tank.
Clyde April 8, 2009 Author April 8, 2009 (edited) To respond to a few ?'s. my nitrates and nitrites are at 0. I do frequent water changes, could be the problem. I have good water flow. They are at the bottom of my 24 gal. jbj. Lighting is coralife 150w MH. I think I will side with "they just do this sometimes" . I will clean it off and see what happens. Thanx all Edited April 8, 2009 by Clyde
CHUBAKAH April 8, 2009 April 8, 2009 Don't worry about the nitrates with this animal. Mine are at zero all the time and my GSP's, all three of them thrive.
