johnnybv February 23, 2009 February 23, 2009 (edited) Must be something like that, but how is the consumer to know? If it's such a huge difference it's very important. The fact there is nearly a 4:1 discrepancy in performance between the numbers for the "same" pump is very disturbing. Tim, did that chart come off the reef flo site? If so I need to make a call, being a dealer, discrepancies like that could cause a lot of problems. BTW you were reading the chart correctly in your earlier interpretation. John Hi John, It did not, I just found it on the web at some vendor's site who was selling the pump. I did find that exact chart at least 3 times. It sure seems to me it must be a pic of the chart that comes on the pump boxes I have seen. Here are a few places with that chart: Aqua Cave DIY Reef Fishy Business Aquarium Guys (no chart, but it does list 16' head at 600 GPH) Here is one with a totally different chart (looks like the one you are talking about): Salty Critter That Fish Place also has the same numbers you posted: TFP I've noticed 4200, 4300, and 4500 GPH listed as the barracuda number just now at 3 different places. I am confused. Is there more than 1 barracuda with hugely different performance? Was there a major error made on a previous chart? tim

I know that they just came out with a new line that is supposed to perform better on all aspects. I could only assume that the spreadsheet on their site right now is the most current, and that is what I have been using. I too have those performance curves / charts but they are from several years ago, so those vendors are not staying on top of the latest test results as far as im concerned. I will make a call this week and try to get the lo down... john
davelin315 February 23, 2009 February 23, 2009 Hey John, they did have that posted on the reeflo site before, but I haven't been on there in at least a year to look at the flow charts. Those charts, I thought, were directly from reeflopumps.com (http://reeflopumps.com/productoverview.html). They still have those charts online in the flow and pressure tab, not sure if they're still the same ones, but they were also on the boxes.

Yea, they've mostly replaced them with the excel files that John noted earlier. But there is definitely a huge discrepancy in the flow and power draw. I'm guessing they updated the pumps and the charts are correct for the current generation of pump and the old charts match the old pumps. I'm curious to find out what's going on though. Usually a vendor is better about configuration control and will provide distinct versioning when such a substantial change is made to a product line.
Jon Lazar February 23, 2009 February 23, 2009 overklok, You may also want to think about using two smaller capacity (gph) pumps rather than a single large capacity pump. It's nice to be able to take a pump offline for maintenance or when it breaks without jeopardizing your whole plan for water movement. At least consider buying a second pump and keeping it on hand for emergencies. By capacity I mean gph, not the ability to pump uphill. Jon
jamesbuf February 23, 2009 February 23, 2009 FYI, reeflopumps.com had a special on the pressure rated Wahoo pumps for only $199 plus shipping. They had this maybe 3 weeks ago and I sent them an email asking if that offer was still valid. They said it was still available, and total price would be $229 with shipping. They said they could send out a paypal request for payment. Send them an email at sales@reeflopumps.com and ask if you can still take advantage of the deal.
