Like the title says I've got a pregnant crab in my tank. Does anyone know any possible way I can make these babies survive????? I've read a lil about it and it doesn't seem possible in a tank with running filters and such.

I used to raise crawfish when I was a kid. Take the crab and put it into a small tank with shallow saltwater and an airstone for circulation. You're going to have to find or hatch your own rotifers or brine shrimp and target feed the fry. Take the mother out as soon as they hatch, otherwise it'll eat the young. Do twice daily water changes to keep ammonia to a minimum.

I can't really help you out wirh this, but how can you tell she's pregnant? Just wondering...

On her belly there is a clutch of eggs, kinda like an open flap on her belly.

I don't have a pic. I was doing some new aquascaping and I caught a glimpse of her. I'll try and get a pic asap. Thanks for the advice all, I'll see what I can do.

Unless they are fertilized the crab will one day just sit in one spot and pick caviar off her belly, seen it happen 3 or 4 times now

Oh really.......gross!

I had a red one once - but it was mean. It was also one of the largest Mithrax crabs I've had.

Good point - is there a male in the tank as well?

Yes.
