octopus January 17, 2009 January 17, 2009 (edited) Like the title says I've got a pregnant crab in my tank. Does anyone know any possible way I can make these babies survive????? I've read a lil about it and it doesn't seem possible in a tank with running filters and such. Edited January 17, 2009 by octopus

steveoutlaw January 17, 2009 January 17, 2009 got a fuge you can put him in? If not, set up a little 10g and just do water changes.
L8 2 RISE January 17, 2009 January 17, 2009 I can't really help you out wirh this, but how can you tell she's pregnant? Just wondering...
zygote2k January 17, 2009 January 17, 2009 I used to raise crawfish when I was a kid. Take the crab and put it into a small tank with shallow saltwater and an airstone for circulation. You're going to have to find or hatch your own rotifers or brine shrimp and target feed the fry. Take the mother out as soon as they hatch, otherwise it'll eat the young. Do twice daily water changes to keep ammonia to a minimum.

octopus January 17, 2009 Author January 17, 2009 ive never seen a red mithrax crab...do you have a pic? eric I don't have a pic. I was doing some new aquascaping and I caught a glimpse of her. I'll try and get a pic asap. Thanks for the advice all, I'll see what I can do.
Smoothtriqueter January 17, 2009 January 17, 2009 On her belly there is a clutch of eggs, kinda like an open flap on her belly. Unless they are fertilized the crab will one day just sit in one spot and pick caviar off her belly, seen it happen 3 or 4 times now
