jjv99 November 29, 2008 November 29, 2008 I noticed this translucent fellow attached to the rock that my Umbrella coral came on, and I have not been able to figure out what it is. Any suggestions? http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/NK6FyZJ9_PljkyDHOokp-Q PS...sorry for the link...am having trouble uploading photos on the forum.
jason the filter freak November 29, 2008 November 29, 2008 looks to be a very bleached polyp of some kind
lanman November 29, 2008 November 29, 2008 Interesting looking; haven't seen one. I wouldn't be surprised if Sugar Magnolia knows, though. I'd keep an eye on it; see if it colors up or anything. bob
davelin315 November 29, 2008 November 29, 2008 Kinda looks like a tunicate of some kind? My thought, too. Possibly also the siphon from a clam.
OUsnakebyte November 29, 2008 November 29, 2008 (edited) Did you purchase this rock recently from a store and/or had the rock/coral been recently wild-harvested (i.e. come from the ocean recently)? I only ask b/c many hitchhikers that are not normal aquarium stock will make it for a while. Can you rotate the rock to get a pic from another angle to help confirm our suspicions? Oh and, + another 1 for tunicate. Cheers Mike Edited November 29, 2008 by OUsnakebyte

jjv99 November 29, 2008 Author November 29, 2008 I vote tunicate. You folks are amazing...quite a wealth of knowledge. I purchased the umbrella about 3 weeks ago from the same LFS in Rockville MD that i bought most of my other amazing coral from -- i'll check with them on the harvesting. I noticed this sucker about one week after i put it in the aquarium. I have a water change scheduled for today, so i will try and rotate and get another pic. Thanks again.
