I'm thinking of switching to T-5's,right now i have just regular aquarium floresants( spelling). They are old so i want to get new . Wanted some opinion's.

You won't be sorry with T5 fluorescents, better range of color and sooo much better growth (also consider using firefox (as your browser)) it has spell check built in (I couldn't spell fluorescents either)

get a clamp light and a 5700 or 6500K bulb. can be found at home depot extra. grows a crap load of cheato.

(edited)

I use the Home Depot compact florescent flood 6500 K bulbs also. They will say natural daylight bulbs on them and in the fine print will say they are 6500 K. bulbs. You put them in regular light bulb sockets. They are cheaper in the long run.

bout $7 or $8 a bulb usually... I didn't read that you were talking about fuge lighting, skip the t5's and go for the compact fluorescents

Is that the screw in kind that you can use with a clip on housing?

clamp light=$5, bulb =$8. so around $15 for a fuge light.

Looks like thats the way to go. How often do you have to change the bulb?

When ever they burn out, you're growing algae so a color shift shouldn't matter.

I think they are good for like 8000 hours (give or take). I run my lighting 24-7 on the fuge. That's close enough to a year, though the 2 that I purchased at least 2 years ago are still working.

As Jason stated, I'm not concerned about a color shift. They'll get replaced when they burn out.

If you think fluorescent is tough .... try spelling iridescent! Awww... I just gave it away!

(listed as one of the hardest 10 words to spell because everyone puts two r's in it)
