lhcorals November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 I'm thinking of switching to T-5's,right now i have just regular aquarium floresants( spelling). They are old so i want to get new . Wanted some opinion's.
jason the filter freak November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 You won't be sorry with T5 fluorescents, better range of color and sooo much better growth (also consider using firefox (as your browser)) it has spell check built in (I couldn't spell fluorescents either)
dtfleming November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 get a clamp light and a 5700 or 6500K bulb. can be found at home depot extra. grows a crap load of cheato.
Highland Reefer November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 (edited) I use the Home Depot compact florescent flood 6500 K bulbs also. They will say natural daylight bulbs on them and in the fine print will say they are 6500 K. bulbs. You put them in regular light bulb sockets. They are cheaper in the long run. Do you know what the approx. cost of one would be? If i go with t-5's i need one 24" long. does anybody have one laying around that wants to sale? I cant afford a new one right now due to wife's medical bill's.
jason the filter freak November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 Do you know what the approx. cost of one would be? bout $7 or $8 a bulb usually... I didn't read that you were talking about fuge lighting, skip the t5's and go for the compact fluorescents
dtfleming November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 clamp light=$5, bulb =$8. so around $15 for a fuge light.

lhcorals November 9, 2008 Author November 9, 2008 clamp light=$5, bulb =$8. so around $15 for a fuge light. Looks like thats the way to go. How often do you have to change the bulb?
jason the filter freak November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 Looks like thats the way to go. How often do you have to change the bulb? When ever they burn out, you're growing algae so a color shift shouldn't matter.
zygote2k November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 I use a Home Depot 42w CF Floodlight fixture that is 6500K. It was about $40. Works like a charm.
gastone November 9, 2008 November 9, 2008 Looks like thats the way to go. How often do you have to change the bulb? I think they are good for like 8000 hours (give or take). I run my lighting 24-7 on the fuge. That's close enough to a year, though the 2 that I purchased at least 2 years ago are still working. As Jason stated, I'm not concerned about a color shift. They'll get replaced when they burn out. Garrett.

Awww... I just gave it away! (listed as one of the hardest 10 words to spell because everyone puts two r's in it) bob
