discretekarma March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 (edited) What is the most reliable stand alone heater. I'm looking for a realiable durable heater that won't be hooked to an ACIII. I want it to have a digital thermostat/control unit. It has to be the best quality and not be able to break, fail, or over/under heat. I'm guessing this means that I'll need titanium but want to know for sure and which brand/model. I'm not looking for the cheapest but actually the best. Will a mod change the title from Realiable to Reliable. typo. Thanks Edited March 25, 2008 by discretekarma
jnguyen4007 March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 Take a look here. The titanium heaters they have been known to work really well. http://www.jehmco.com/html/heaters.html
discretekarma March 25, 2008 Author March 25, 2008 What is the difference between ETCI and GTC controllers. Are you talking about the titanium heaters at the bottom or the pro heat heaters? Thanks
Highland Reefer March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 I would recommend that you go with two heaters where one indiviudal one can not overheat your system, just in case old Murphy catches up with you.
Highland Reefer March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 (edited) I am currently using two Via Aqua Heaters with an Aqua Logic Temp controler. Here is a link: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~VA1117.html I have had both of these heaters working in my systems for over 17 years and they have not failed. Thanks That I'm not sure. give them a call, I'm sure they can give you the answer you're looking for. I never had to be put on hold whenever I call. I have the Proheat titanium heater for my ro/di reservoir and my 10 gal tank and they work very well.
ctenophore March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 That I'm not sure. give them a call, I'm sure they can give you the answer you're looking for. I never had to be put on hold whenever I call. I have the Proheat titanium heater for my ro/di reservoir and my 10 gal tank and they work very well. Careful with Won Pro-heat or anything made by finnex. I have had 5 of 5 finnex titanium heaters fail within 1 month of use. That's using them on an ETC controller too. I wonder who makes their 500 & 1000w titanium heaters? They don't look exactly like Won or Finnex, but it seems everything is made in the same factory in China, just with different labels on them.
jnguyen4007 March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 Jaeger heater is the only one I know that's made in Germany. I still use Jaeger heater in most of tanks. I have relatives who are still using theirs after 20 years. I haven't had any problem with any of the Pro heat heater. Knock on wood. But if you have 5 failed on you in that short period of time, I can see why you would want to steer clear of them. I would recommend jaeger heaters but discretekarma only interested in titanium.
ctenophore March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 That's a great question, which is why I'm wondering who makes their titanium heaters. I have been looking for durable, reliable heaters for a while now. I don't think Won (Pro-heat) & Finnex are the exact same design, but I have owned one Won (which failed after ~1 year) and all my finnex ones have failed. I wouldn't trust either in anything besides water mixing. Scott, maybe give Jehmco a call and let us all know what they say about their Ti models?
jamesbuf March 25, 2008 March 25, 2008 I've had great success with the Stealth heaters. They are ceramic, not glass, which is why I liked them. They also have an auto cutoff if the heater isn't submerged in water. I have two on my system, controlled with an ACIII.

I'm also in the market for some new heaters.
stevearlen March 26, 2008 March 26, 2008 My heaters are stand alone. I like the WOn Brothers Titanium heaters with the PRO-HEAT D-58 LED DIGITAL DISPLAY TEMPERATURE CONTROLLER. Steve

jason the filter freak March 26, 2008 March 26, 2008 I have a 400 watt hydor theo heater. I'm gonna replace it with 2 stealth 150 watt heaters. I love the hydor heater but it is way too powerful for the 75 gallon tank. Interested?
discretekarma March 26, 2008 Author March 26, 2008 I'd really prefer to have one with an external control/display. Thanks though.
rottloverr March 26, 2008 March 26, 2008 I use a Pro Heat with a digital display. Had it for about 6 months. No issues. Cheers, Sean
ErikS March 26, 2008 March 26, 2008 Something like this ? I have no experience with this particular product, but at least it's not part of the heater. If you want proven reliability then a Ranco unit will fit the bill. Rule #1 - never, ever trust your tank to any heater.
