st9z October 23, 2007 October 23, 2007 I just found a bristle worm in my tank. Are they bad? Should I try and remove it?
Guest NSC October 23, 2007 October 23, 2007 Bristle worms are actually good for your tank, they remove detritus and are an excellent addition to your clean up crew. My suggestion let it be, their benefits by far outweigh the cons...unless of course your looking at an 18" fireworm!
discretekarma October 23, 2007 October 23, 2007 This one is close to 18" when spread out. I haven't seen him in a while though. Maybe my arrow crab ate it. Here he is eating another one. Guest NSC October 23, 2007 October 23, 2007 Unless your arrow crab is the aquarium equivalent to Godzilla I don't think it would be gobbling a foot and a half long fireworm, although I could be wrong and probably am, but none the less would you agree that a bristleworm is beneficial?
YBeNormal October 23, 2007 October 23, 2007 Most are beneficial but some can be considered to be pests depending on the types of corals you have in your tank. There are tons of articles on the web about bristle worms and whether they are good or bad. I did a google search and here is one of the first articles that popped up: http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/reef-h...-worm-info.html

treesprite October 23, 2007 October 23, 2007 They are good IF they don't become an infestation. An infestation is generally a sign of overfeeding the tank. I've had an infestation before - not a pretty sight.
dhogan October 23, 2007 October 23, 2007 I'm sure most of you have seen this: http://www.oregonreef.com/sub_worm.htm
