I just got two of these kids after a significant amount of research. The experts have told me that it's ok to put certain species of pipefish into my reef display, given that my fish are docile. I'm really excited to have them, and may be setting up another tank for different kinds of pipefish that don't go so well in the reef.

What are your other fish? I don't think I can do it, 'cause my two aggressive fish I haven't been able to catch, but I'm curious to know regardless.

cool pipefish for sure.... I have one also......... my yellow tang and the banded pipefish are quite the buddies.... they hang out all the time together.... ;)

Been looking at these...can you share where you got them from?

Thanks.

Sean at Fins and Feathers. He has bandeds right now and alligators, but the experts tell me that the alligators wouldn't do well in a reef and need a species tank.

2 pair of clowns, purple tang (a little one), hippo tang, powder brown tang, magnificent foxface, blue jaw trigger, copper banded butterfly, potters angel, some PJ cardinals.

YAY! Really nice to see that someone else has them in a reef tank. I'm trying to keep myself from going nuts and putting up tons of little seahorse and pipefish tanks.

Nope, it's looking at the thong...

Johnny of BRK has one, too (not a thong - well, at least not that I know of and never hope to know), in his reef.

Oh is he ever GORGEOUS! You have to let me know if you get any of those in.... please please please. I'm still amazed by that HUGE seahorse you had at the social. If I knew more about him and had a ready tank he would have been coming home with me.

As for the thong....uh.....no comment :-).

can they be trained to eat something other than only pods?

they can be trained, i have been trying to get them on frozen mysid. There is a guy on rc who has his eating full size frozen mysid.

I had my dragon face pipes eating frozen foods, but have not been able to get these guys on them. When i got the dragon face pipes on frozen foods they were in q-tank. so it was easier.
